Lpn to Rn online school

Published

Hi fellow nurse friends. I was wondering if anyone had personal experience with an online LPN to RN program. I wouldn’t mind going in for lab and clinical but I was wondering if there was any accredited programs where I can do the class work online. Thank you all

I think these are bad ideas. Mainly due to clinicals. You really need a strong program you are tied to and that weekly, in-person reinforcement.

If they don't include clinicals--that's a huge disservice.

Jory I respect your position but I must add that we are forced to have to look for alternative routes to obtaining our RN. The reason is multifaceted first schools bottleneck the system by only taking in a small class of 30 students a class year when they could easily double or even triple that amount by staggering class groups throughout the day. Second the requirements to even apply to an RN program are stupid at best. We are nurses why do we have to do a TEAS or HESI test, why do we have to retake A&P 1 and 2, Micro and Patho. Why do we need a refresher course on psychology? The nursing schools as well as terrible administration in Hospitals are destroying the profession and causing the nursing shortage.

That girl 37 I would suggest either distance learning systems or achieve test prep. They will get you a program that helps you get your RN degree through excelsior college. This is an accredited college and I know several nurses that went this route. Give it a try I did and will be an RN in just 6 more test, one two day clinical and then I take the NCLEX

How hard is excelsior? I’ve been an LPN for almost 8 years and work circles around the RNs at my job. I’m not saying I don’t need clinicals and a little more education but I’m sure I will be a great RN after I finish, hopefully online. It’s to hard to try and work a full time job and go back. I can get in to RN here because I have really good scores but they only accept once a year, I work night shift and I don’t know how I can do that and go to school. I could but my time but then I lose insurance. I need a good online LPN to RN option

Excelsior is such a popular topic that it has its own forum. I'm sure if you browse through, you'll be able to see what others experienced. https://allnurses.com/excelsior-college-c198/

I may be wrong but I think the only places offering online LPN/VN to RN are Excelsior and Indiana State University (and I'm not sure on that one).

I'm a fan of Excelsior but a lot of states have a problem with their competency based education therefore check carefully if your state accepts their graduates. Several states require certification of preceptor hours, requirement you be licensed in another state first with many hours of practice completed first, or in the case of CA, it's just a no go if you graduated after 2003 or so (appeals are possible but unlikely).

Wow, just signed in to comment on this- didn't realize my account was from back when I was a CNA ?

Anyway, I'm currently completing the ACEII NLN exams to do the OU LPN-BSN program. It's a hybrid, so you have to go in person one saturday per month, plus 14 total weekdays of clinical over 2 semesters, but other than that it's all online!

Good luck!

Sara what’s the name of your school please

Hi SaraCNAOK. what's the name of your school and how was the admission process?

It is The University of Oklahoma LPN-BSN program. I’ll also be applying to this program for Fall 2022 start, they have three options 9months, 3 semesters or 2 years. It looks like a good fit for me, plus it’s open to out of state students and accredited.
