Lpn to bsn bridge with low gpa

Hello All!

I am currently a licensed practical nurse. I have been working in mental health for 2 years and public health for 1 year. I absolutely love nursing, but I have not reached my full potential. Being an lpn has been a blessing, but now i am ready to advance in my nursing career.

I recently applied to a lpn to bsn bridge program at a university near me. They require a 2.7 gpa and I only have a 2.76. Also they require a 75% on the Hesi A2, I was shocked when I earned a 94%! I'm hoping this bsn program gives me a chance, but I'm WORRIED I won't get in. There was no essay to explain my grades or opportunity to submit references. And i only applied to one program, because it was the best option for me. Any other program near me would be a RN program.

Since I ultimately want to become a CRNA, I don't want to waste time while earning my BSN. I would still need to earn my MSN and complete CRNA school.

Two of my former classmates have applied to this same program and got in! Naturally they both had higher GPAs than me. One girl admitted to getting in with only a 3.2 GPA...still way better than my lowly 2.76.:facepalm: They told me that LPNS that apply there get in, especially in the spring. I applied for Spring 2017 but I can't help but feel uneasy and nervous about my low GPA. You know how word of mouth goes...only accurate until it applies to you (story of my life).

Anyone ever have a similar situation like mine? Did you get in? Do my chances seem unrealistic? Your advice/input would be greatly appreciated.

Generally speaking, masses of applicants are not exactly applying for admission to LPN-to-BSN transition programs.

My former coworker was accepted into an LVN-to-BSN program at a regional state university with a 2.8 grade point average overall and a 3.0 in the prerequisites.

If you call their admissions office, they should be able to advise you of your chances. Good luck!

Good luck! I just applied to an FNP program and have the same worries. My gpa is a 3.07 and their minimum is 3.0. I'm an alumni there from their BSN program, and I'm hoping my 12 years as a nurse (and also my military experience) help get me through the door. Let us know how it goes for you!

Thank you so much! 12 years experience is great and I would think they would take that into consideration. Being military is always an added bonus. I wish you the best of luck in all your endeavors! I'll be sure to post about their final decision. Hope you will do the same:)

Hello All!

To those who have been wondering the outcome of my application to the Lpn to Bsn bridge program, I got in! I am still in shock a bit, but I am definitely ready to put another degree under my belt. This time around I will focus on getting exceptional grades so that I won't be back in this boat of uncertainty again. :D
