I have NO college credits what-so-ever, i have been putting off starting this course because i am dreading having to take all the gen ed courses. My question is, has anyone else started from scratch and just how many gen ed courses did you have to take?? If you take the clep test and pass, does that mean you get the credits for the course without actually having to take it?? I am waiting for the college rep to call me, just thought i would ask you all about your experiences! Thanks!!

How is it that you have no college credits but hold an LPN license?

Pray do tell.

Those of us who attended LPN/LVN programs at trade schools or business colleges that lacked regional accreditation did not earn any transferable college credits upon completion of these courses. My LVN program was nationally accredited by NAPNES, but college credits need to be regionally accredited in order to transfer seamlessly to other schools.

People who take and pass ECEs (Excelsior College exams), CLEPs (College Level exams), and DSSTs earn college credit just by passing the exam. For example, if you take and pass the Biology CLEP, you have earned 3 semester hours worth of college credit and no longer need to take that class. I know of people who have earned 15 college credits in a single day by taking five of these tests on the same day.

However, please do not sign up with any publishing companies such as the College Network or RUE. They simply sell you very expensive materials to help you pass these tests. There are cheaper sources that will help you pass, such as InstantCert and so forth.

I got my LPN 33 yrs ago and classes were just called nursing 1, nursing 2, ect... So even though I had A&P, Pharmacology, Math none of it transferred. So had to take them all over again, started 3 years ago with 10 different pre reqs and and 7 nursing classes. Been working full-time and now just have LS1&2 left and microbiology. So yes it can be done!!! Have clepped or taken Excelsior ams for all except A&P just new it was too much and needed to take in online at community college. This site keeps me motivated! Good Luck!!:[anb]:

I'm also an LPN with ZERO college credits. I got my practical nursing education through a technical school. It is really overwhelming having to start from scratch, but it really not too bad when you can just test out of everything. I'm mostly doing the ECE exams, but I'm also taking some Spanish courses online through my local university that will count towards my humanities credits. I need to learn Spanish anyway, my husband is from Panama. :) I think you can also do all of your general ed stuff before actually enrolling in Excelsior.

I got my LPN degree through trade school, no college credits were needed. You have to take and pass an entrance exam, basic english and math.

same here i went to a technical career college and none of the "classes" equaled out to college credit. it was an 11mo career oriented program, one of the best in the area with a 99 percent pass rate on the NCLEX...i had a few college credits from back when i had first gotten out of high school and attended college for a semester but that was it. Alot of career colleges or technical colleges have NATIONAL credit, which doesn't amount to much in most other colleges therefore do not transfer or is like have NO credit whatsoever. My mom is a Respiratory Therapist, she went to a career college that was nationally accreditited and holds an Associates degree, however, is having a hell of a time finding a college for a bachelor degree program that will accept any of her credits on a regional level.
