LPN to RN after Everest LPN program

Nursing Students LPN-RN

Published

I am considering going to Everest (Grand Rapids, MI) for my LPN, but I do want to go on for my RN.

I have been reading scary posts from people that say you would have to start over because the credits wont transfer.

Is it possible to enter an LPN to RN program after attending everest. Would I have to do alot of extra classes?

If it were me, I would contact schools in the area with LPN-to-RN programs and ask them if they accept credits from Everest. The problem is that lots of proprietary, for-profit tech/vocational schools like Everest have nursing programs that are approved by the BON (for their graduates to be eligible for licensure), and may offer decent educational programs, but, because those schools are not accredited by the same accrediting agencies (I'm talking about general education, not specifically nursing accreditation) that accredit "regular" colleges and universities and don't meet the academic standards that are required of "regular" colleges and universities, "regular" schools are not able to accept their courses for credit.

It's hard for me to imagine a good reason for paying tuition for courses that won't transfer into other schools -- especially in nursing, where so many people work their way "up the ladder" in steps over the course of years. Esp. if you are already thinking you want to continue your education over time, I would encourage you to only attend an LPN program that will allow you to transfer those credits into other schools.

Best wishes!

Another thing to consider when choosing a school to do LPN is how much clinical experience they offer and where the clinicals are done. Some of these new colleges offering LPN don't have good clinicals. You also need to know their NCLEX-PN pass rate. If you going to pay the big bucks, you need to make sure you're going to get a big bang out of it.

I also question the quality of the instructors at these new schools since their is a shortage of qualified nursing instructors.

Hi there

Have you found anything out with regard to your question.? I have been accepted to the LPN program at everest in southfield. I start in Jan. My understanding is that you can do an LPN to RN program as long as you have your state license.
