Nursing Students Online Learning

I just signed up with the College Network and am excited about it! Has anyone on here gone through the College Network program? I have had people in the past make jokes about people getting their RN online, saying that it is not as good as going to an actual classroom. And just basically belittling it. Why? I heard someone compare it to getting your drivers license at K-Mart..lol Someone please re-assure me! LOL:uhoh3:

I am using the TCN as are many others. There is a link to other EC students on yahoo groups. Its good to hear from other students and those who have passed the CPNE.malka

I am not doing either actually. I am attending Central Ohio Technical College. I have to go a few times a week but I couldn't get it done any other way. It's just my personal learning style that I need a teacher in front of me. Another LPN friend signed up also and she ended up eating the cost as well. However, there must be people out there that are able to succeed or it would not exist... so I wish you luck. I will tell you that even though you're going thru TCN you can request study guides from EC that TCN does not send you. The EC guides are more like what you see on your tests. They are free you just contact EC and specify which guides you need.

I too am using TCN to get my Excelsior degree, I have done Sociology and Life Span, passed those and am testing Ethics in a few days. Right now I am getting frustrated B/C I work FT and cannot devote all of my time to studying, which is what I would rather do. I have a crazy busy schedule which includes 2 jobs and kids with active lives, and my husband who recently left his job to start his own business. I will get there eventually. Anyway, my feelings are it is a good way to go if you are busy, it is a trade-off. You pay more money, but save lots of time looking for textbooks and study materials b/c TCN sends you what you need. And the academic support is outstanding, and they are quick to send supporting text books needed. You can't listen to all the negative comments. I called Excelsior myself and they said they send out a list of the text books you need to take the test, it is up to you to purchase/find them. Personally I don't have time for that. Much more convenient to have it all dropped at my front step. Good luck to you.

I am so confused. I am a recent grad for of course LPN. I want to bridge over into the RN class this January w/ my community college, but there is only 10 seats. If I wait until August to start from scratch in the RN program there is still no guarrante that I will get in and this route is so much cheaper. On the other hand, if i do TCN or straight to Excelsior is more money and I study on my own. Can I be that independent.....I ask my self all the time? I'm just confused

do you have any of the books left? i may be interested

English Composition, Intro to Psychology, Anatomy and Physiology, Sociology, and American Literature.

All are unused and in perfect shape.

Hello ladies, I am also an LVN looking to pursue me RN. I live in Ca and am completely and utterly frustrated and tired of trying to do this the traditional way!!! I was thinking of either going into the program the college network promotes or maybe going to private school. Which way do you think is best? How do you like the program thus far? If anyone has any ideas or suggestions on how I can get into a school here in CA, Im open for any and all advice. I cant afford to quit my job and pursue school full-time so maybe online is the best route? Please help?? :bowingpur

Hello KarmaRene,

I honestly think your success in an independant study program depends 100% on your motivation to do it...not just right now but every single day until you're done. I was a single LPN at the time and had just bought my first home. I obviously couldn't stop working (like yourself) to go to school and didn't have anyone to support me financially. I thought TCN sounded too good to be true. I tried it and after the first couple of weeks I knew I wasn't going to be able to do it. I had to have that schedule to go by. I needed to know I had a class at 3pm and there were people there expecting to see my face. I really haven't heard of anyone getting through it personally- I'm sure they are out there somewhere. CHeck it out very well because when I tried to get out of it i uncovered a whole new can of worms. The College Network is not a college at all, it's actually a publishing company and they basically print papers and put them in binder notebooks and call it a text book. A joke if you ask me, especially since I paid $5,000. just for that!

I enrolled in a small community school and entered their transition program, I now have 1 quarter left and then my preceptorship then I'm done. I have to say I'm so glad I did it this way. I was able to quit my job and since I'm a full time student I use the remainder of my tuition refund check to live on. Works quite nicely for me. Good luck in this difficult decision. Whatever the route- don't give up on getting your RN. :nurse:

I hope no one here is getting rude or anything. Txspadequeen is an excellent resource while working on yoyur rn. She has been awesome at answering my questions thus far....Keep it up, woman:-)

No, I meant in the regular class. I don't see any there. :)

You might want to check the dates on the posts you are replying to. ;) This one was over a year ago.

i have read through some of the text. im seeking their help or opinions so it would be in there best interest not to start with me. besides, im a no-nonsense type person. thanks for the info though, i have decided on private school rather than online. i cant wait another semester for a traditional program. i just cant.
