LPN before RN-BSN?

Published

Hey guys,!

I am new to this forum and just wanted to introduce myself.

My name is Rose, I recently changed my major from Dentistry to Nursing. There are several things I would like to ask and need some advice in order to make a better decision for my nursing path.

I am currently in a Community College finishing a Bachelor's Prerequisites to the Nursing Program at the University of Oklahoma (OU) which will be the Spring of 2016.

An LPN instructor came in to talk with my classmates and I the other day about doing the LPN program or the ADN program.

The instructor said it is best for us to start off with LPN program because it will prepare us for the RN programs and will be able to get paid enough while going to RN school.

Now my questions is, since I am almost done with my prerequisites for a University, should I go ahead and do LPN before I bridge over to RN at OU?

By the way, the reason why I decided not to do an ADN program is because I only have a few classes left for applying for the BSN program. Please let me know what you guys think and if I am wrong about several things please let me know.

Thanks.

Barring the recruiter's pretty talk....why would you NOT go straight for the BSN at this point, since you have almost completed the pre-requ requirements?

If you really want to work as a nurse while schooling for RN, then LPN makes sense. But to go through additional time and expense when you are nearly ready now doesn't, at least to me. Would you be able to be working as an LPN prior to admission to the RN program (what is the length of time of the program)? LPN programs vary considerably, from 9 months to 15.

What would the cost of the LPN program, plus BON licensing fees plus NCLEX exam fees be?

I agree with RNsRWe - I'd go for the BSN.

You guys are definitely right about this. I was unclear with the decisio. Thanks for the advice. I will be doing the BSN instead of LPN.
