hello. I'm almost done with my first semester of nursing school. This upcoming December I will be done with med/surg, technical skills and health assesment. I have been told that once I pass that second semester if will be eligible to sit for LPN NCLEX while I finish my BSN in December 2015. is this true? I'm in Florida. thanks in advance!

You need to check with your school and the BoN. Med-surg is not sufficient you need to complete med/surg, OB, pediatrics, geriatrics, psych & pharmacology units.
thanks. I will check with BON. I am done with pharmacology and as I said before, almost done with fundamentals and pathophysiology. OB and peds are the third semester which for me will be January and in the summer psych.

No, its not true. I don't know why people (not you OP) have this idea that LPN is like a consolation prize but its not.

How is one going to successfully the the NCLEX-PN after 2 semesters of a nursing program without completing OB and Peds as JBN indicated? I can't see the BON clearing this, especially after one semester.
Bear in mind that the NCLEX-PN is a different scope, as well; most (not all) BONs state that approval to take the exam in based on completion of a PN program.
Then even if possible you would likely be ineligible until you complete psych next summer. You need to have clinical and theory in all required areas. You are likely qualified to challenge the CNA exam though.
I did not mean to offend anyone with my question, and I don't see LPN as a consolation prize at all. I just thought it would be something to think about while I completed my BSN. I already have a CNA license and am also a Surgical Technologist. I work in L&D. been there for 3 years and I will probably just stay there until I'm done in December 2015. thanks for the replies.
