LPN moving to the KC area

U.S.A. Missouri

Published

I've been an LPN for 4 year and I am moving to KC soon. Can anybody tell me pay ranges? Any advice on good places to find employment and places I should stay away from? Is the job market favorable? What is the pay range. I have experience in clinic nursing, med-surg and LTC and I'd appreciate if I could get some advice. Also, I'm going to be living on the Missouri side, how is licensing handled between Missouri and Kansas. I really appreciate any help I can get.

Thanks

Tracy

I live in North KC and am currently working in St. Joseph, MO (about 40miles north). I was adamant about working in a hospital straight out of school and unfortunately I had to drive that far to work for one. Only a select few hospitals hire LPNs (I know that North Kansas City does with 1-2yrs experience). I personally wouldn't work for any of the HCA hospitals out here (Research Medical Center, Centerpointe). I am not very familiar with LTC, as I have only clinical experience to base from. My friend works nights at a LTC facility and makes 18.00/hr. I make 15.75/hr working nights at my hospital. Office jobs really just depend as well. From about 13.50 and up I would say. But these figures are based out of very little experience, as I just graduated four months ago. I hope that this helps. Good luck!

Sorry to invade the thread, but I would love to know what LTC facility your friend is making $18.00/hr!!! Do you mind sharing?

I am to graduate PN school May 20, and am meeting brick walls when inquiring about starting wages. I have called HR of numerous KC area hospitals, medical offices, etc and am met with the same pat answer...."You're invited to fill out an application and once you are interviewed you may then discuss starting salaries". ........................ Sucks the life right out of you!

I'm also a bit skeptical of salary.com....

Thanks for any insight into current wages for LPNs!!!!!!!

PM me if you would like.....

In response to the bold, why do you feel that way?

I work in a HCA hospital (Nurse Intern) and currently attending Research College of Nursing and is in my 3rd semester.

I understand the pay may be a little low for starting RN's (but they just got approved to increase with the 2008 graduates), and I do know they employ LPN's as well, my hospital has 3 of them, and one is in the OR.
