  1. Florida Rehab RN here.........Snowbirds bring our census up this time of year, as you can imagine! At my hospital, we don't bring in Agency nurses with the increased census.Staff nurses are offered contracts December thru April that are comperable to an Agency rate.......Payday rocks this time of year!!!! Dawn
  2. I used to work week-end option LDRP and now work at a Plastic Surgeon's practice.......Ummmmm, the switch to office atmosphere is nothing short of FABULOUS---- No vitals, no report, no call lights, 8 hour work day, on and on! It's the best decision I've made! Plastics offers free perks like Botox, fillers, peels, and one surgery per year.......Not everyone's priority, but I LOVE the benes!!!!!
  3. Again, thanks so much to all who responded! With your help, the "meet and greet" went VERY, VERY well (for my first attempt at this whole private duty thing)! I initially applied to the private duty agency for part-time week end work, but am now re-thinking -- I can see myself doing this full-time---- I'll keep you posted!!!
  4. Your response was EXACTLY what I was hoping to hear- Thanks for the wonderful insight!!!!
  5. 4 m/o is being discharged with vent, trach and gtube-
  6. What has been your experience interviewing with parents of pediatric pt (to be d/c with vent, trach and g-tube) for potential private duty work? I am new to this and very curious--- Thanks to all who respond--
  7. I have 3 years experience in the hospital setting (med/surg-tele and LDRP) making $22.05 an hour + diff here in Kansas City , my last night shift being Friday. Monday I start a new position as a primary RN for a Plastic Surgeon and will be starting at $21.00........No brainer for me to leave the crazy, high stress, no lunch and no potty break environment. The practice that I am going to comprises of six Plastic Surgeons who have just built a state-of-the-art facility that resembles an art museum more than an office......I've died and gone to nurse Heaven!!!!!
  8. In Kansas City, MO, I make a base pay of $22.05 plus night shift diff of $3.50. I do not work week-ends other than taking call one night every 6 week schedule, another $3.00 per hour. I do not think it is nearly enough pay to compensate for all the emotional and physical stress that we go through on a "daily" basis!:heartbeat:heartbeat:redbeathe:redbeathe:heartbeat:heartbeat
  9. I am in the same boat.......Hubby n I have rental homes that will be turned over to a management company when I start traveling.........Hubby does'nt want to be a Wal-Mart greeter.....Any ideas???

As a new Labor and Delivery nurse, the saltine comparison helps immensely! I'll be sure to share with fellow newbies....
  11. Medical/hospital software development with companies such as Cerner hire nurses. Not sure how extensive your experience must be though....
  12. Wow, wow, wow! After the shift ended, you must have felt a huge sense of accomplishment! I will be graduating in May, and have applied for 2 ED positions. Have heard back from one at a children's hospital, and anticipate that I will hear back from the second (I work on a med-surg floor at this same hospital as an LPN)......Any words of encouragement before the interviews???
  13. Have you looked into Truman yet? As a new grad last year I was hired onto one of the med-surg floors for a weekend alt position. I now am attending a full time bridge program so the work schedule is perfect. It is my understanding that they are still hiring LPNs.......Our model is team nursing. Their website is trumed.org or call 816-404-1000.... Good luck if you are still looking! Dawn
  14. Great minds think alike! Hehehe I am starting a PRN position on Tuesday at a clinical research facility in addition to Truman, just to cover my bases............ Thanks again! Dawn
  15. Thanks for the reply! I've been an LPN at Truman since September and am a little nervous...............Our CEO has "promised" that there will be no lay-offs, however, the hospital keeps chipping away from us. Each time I go into work there is another email regarding how the company is cutting costs directly from our pay....Just waiting for the other shoe to drop....
