  1. I am just curious about what the average pay is for an office or clinic RN? I am currently working on a busy med-surg floor and make a decent wage. I am not happy at my current job and am looking into finding something new. I realize that clinic nurses don't make as much as hospitals nurses, but I am just curious if it is a big difference. It may be worth it to me to take a slight pay cut to be happier at my job. Thanks.
  2. I just had a debate that I am trying to solve within myself. I have been working on a med-surg floor for 6 months now. Today I just put in for a transfer to the L&D unit. L&D is what I love, it's what I went to nursing school for. I am just confused because I don't know whether or not I should go for L&D or stay with med-surg. I don't want to hurt my manager's feelings. I really enjoy the people that I work with, but I am just not happy on the floor. I want to try my hand at L&D. What should I do? Thanks.
  3. I too am having trouble getting an L&D job. It was what I went to nursing school for. I live in Spokane,WA and am having trouble even getting an interview. I am a fairly new nurse (graduated in December) and have been working on a med-surg floor. I really do not want to be a med-surg nurse. I would love to try my hand at L&D, but they all want L&D experience. I own my house so it isn't very feasible for me to just move to a new area. Any suggestions? Please help!!!
  4. I agree about med-surg being very busy. I have only working as a med-surg RN for about 2 1/2 months and I am constantly busy at work, although I feel like mostly all I do is pass medications and fill orders all day. Does anyone else feel this way?
  5. I think if you love long term care then you should stay there. You will be more able to make career advancements if you start off in the area that you enjoy.
  6. I guess that maybe I am one of the lucky new grads who got day shift right off the bat. I decided that night shift did not work for me and I was just going to wait to start working until I got a day job. Maybe try working as a tech in the area that you want to specialize in and this may increase your chances of getting your dream job. Our instructors also advised us to go in and meet with the manager of the unit that we wanted to work on before we even graduated, this may also help when you go to get a job. I didn't do this because the area I work in was not my first choice, but I was lucky enough to get a day job so I took it. I am learning a lot and may decide to even stay there. Good luck!!!:nuke:
  7. I wanted to say hi to StigmaBusterRN, I too just graduated from ICN in December. I'm not sure who you are, but my name is Tiffany. Feel free to respond back to me.
  8. I'm a new grad RN starting on day shift on a very busy post-surgical floor. Been working there for two weeks and love it so far.
