  1. Florida Rehab RN here.........Snowbirds bring our census up this time of year, as you can imagine! At my hospital, we don't bring in Agency nurses with the increased census.Staff nurses are offered contracts December thru April that are comperable to an Agency rate.......Payday rocks this time of year!!!! Dawn
  2. I used to work week-end option LDRP and now work at a Plastic Surgeon's practice.......Ummmmm, the switch to office atmosphere is nothing short of FABULOUS---- No vitals, no report, no call lights, 8 hour work day, on and on! It's the best decision I've made! Plastics offers free perks like Botox, fillers, peels, and one surgery per year.......Not everyone's priority, but I LOVE the benes!!!!!
  3. Again, thanks so much to all who responded! With your help, the "meet and greet" went VERY, VERY well (for my first attempt at this whole private duty thing)! I initially applied to the private duty agency for part-time week end work, but am now re-thinking -- I can see myself doing this full-time---- I'll keep you posted!!!
  4. Your response was EXACTLY what I was hoping to hear- Thanks for the wonderful insight!!!!
  5. 4 m/o is being discharged with vent, trach and gtube-
  6. What has been your experience interviewing with parents of pediatric pt (to be d/c with vent, trach and g-tube) for potential private duty work? I am new to this and very curious--- Thanks to all who respond--
  7. I have 3 years experience in the hospital setting (med/surg-tele and LDRP) making $22.05 an hour + diff here in Kansas City , my last night shift being Friday. Monday I start a new position as a primary RN for a Plastic Surgeon and will be starting at $21.00........No brainer for me to leave the crazy, high stress, no lunch and no potty break environment. The practice that I am going to comprises of six Plastic Surgeons who have just built a state-of-the-art facility that resembles an art museum more than an office......I've died and gone to nurse Heaven!!!!!
  8. In Kansas City, MO, I make a base pay of $22.05 plus night shift diff of $3.50. I do not work week-ends other than taking call one night every 6 week schedule, another $3.00 per hour. I do not think it is nearly enough pay to compensate for all the emotional and physical stress that we go through on a "daily" basis!:heartbeat:heartbeat:redbeathe:redbeathe:heartbeat:heartbeat
  9. I am in the same boat.......Hubby n I have rental homes that will be turned over to a management company when I start traveling.........Hubby does'nt want to be a Wal-Mart greeter.....Any ideas???

As a new Labor and Delivery nurse, the saltine comparison helps immensely! I'll be sure to share with fellow newbies....
  11. Medical/hospital software development with companies such as Cerner hire nurses. Not sure how extensive your experience must be though....
  12. Wow, wow, wow! After the shift ended, you must have felt a huge sense of accomplishment! I will be graduating in May, and have applied for 2 ED positions. Have heard back from one at a children's hospital, and anticipate that I will hear back from the second (I work on a med-surg floor at this same hospital as an LPN)......Any words of encouragement before the interviews???
  13. Have you looked into Truman yet? As a new grad last year I was hired onto one of the med-surg floors for a weekend alt position. I now am attending a full time bridge program so the work schedule is perfect. It is my understanding that they are still hiring LPNs.......Our model is team nursing. Their website is trumed.org or call 816-404-1000.... Good luck if you are still looking! Dawn
  14. Great minds think alike! Hehehe I am starting a PRN position on Tuesday at a clinical research facility in addition to Truman, just to cover my bases............ Thanks again! Dawn
  15. Thanks for the reply! I've been an LPN at Truman since September and am a little nervous...............Our CEO has "promised" that there will be no lay-offs, however, the hospital keeps chipping away from us. Each time I go into work there is another email regarding how the company is cutting costs directly from our pay....Just waiting for the other shoe to drop....
  16. Hi all- I came across a post in the LPN forum that said that there have been lay-offs in Missouri, but it did not say specifically what city.....I pm'd the OP, but am yet to hear back....Can anyone confirm what city these lay-offs happened? Thanks in advance!! Dawn, LPN in Kansas City
  17. St. Luke's Hospital (on the Plaza) has no scrub color requirement, however the RN's wear a purple extension from their badge that says "RN" in large bold letters to avoid confusion.
  18. Hey Shannon- What a small e-world! I graduated with Tyesha- did you go to our pinning/ graduation? If so, I was the one who lead the Nightingale pledge Tell her hi next time you see her- last I talked with her, she had just accepted a position at Sharon Lane. Love her! Dawn:heartbeat:redbeathe:heartbeat:redbeathe
  19. Hi Shannon- Congrats on getting your CNA certificate- you are following in my footsteps! I went to ATS for my CNA, and I just graduated from their LPN program... I found out 2 days ago that I passed my NCLEX, so I'm officially an LPN! What a relief! I plan on bridging next year- I need some time off to soak in my new career... Best of luck to you- you're headed in a great direction! Dawn
  20. Hi- I'd love to give you some info - I work for St. Luke's and have lived in the Overland Park area for quite some time- pm me to discuss~~ Dawn:redpinkhe:redbeathe
  21. How on earth can the school and staff justify this? I would think that students have some kind of right to see their scantron. Is it a practice of all instructors in the nursing program? Dawn
  22. CONGRATS on graduating! Good feeling, huh? I graduated May 21 from an LPN program.... Which leads me to my question regarding NCCC---can you tell me anything about their "hybrid" program for LPNs to bridge? I plan on calling them Tuesday after the holiday, but am curious, and their website has very limited information. Thanks in advance, and again, congrats! Dawn:redbeathe:heartbeat:redbeathe:heartbeat
  23. 2 years ago I started with St. Luke's Hospital (on the Plaza in KCMO) with out ANY healthcare background (they train you as a Patient Care Technician) and I started off, the first day of training, at $12.00 and hour with full benefits for my husband and I. St. Luke's also offers tuition reimbursement after 90 days on the job for part time and full time employees- I just graduated from an LPN program a week ago, and they reimbursed for all of it. I am transferring to another St. Luke's facility and will to start as an LPN on a med surg floor after I pass boards. I plan to bridge to RN in the next year, and St. Luke's again to the rescue! I feel very fortunate that St. Luke's really takes care of their employees! Dawn:redbeathe:heartbeat:redbeathe:heartbeat
  24. St. Luke's program requires separate A&P, fyi...
  25. Don't have anything to add regarding KU's nursing program..... What I really want to say is BRAVO, GOOD FOR YOU for having a clear plan at your age!!!! Stick with nursing and don't let anything get in your way!!! You will never be sorry that you got into the healthcare field - soooooo much variety! I am your mother's age (no doubt) and just graduated from a nursing program 2 days ago...it only took me 16 years of another career to realize the limitless opportunities that nursing will give you.... and you get back just as much...... Best of luck to you!!!!! Dawn:heartbeat:heartbeat:heartbeat:heartbeat:heartbeat
