I would like to hear from fresh LPN/LVN about starting salaries. Also I would like to know where was your first job? And how do you like being a LPN? Do you think you made the right career choice? Since, I will be a fresh LPN/LVN soon. I would like to hear everyone's input. Let's start with Cincinnati Ohio......
Chicago, IL - started in SNF in 2012 - $24 - no shifts differential and no benefits. A year ago (09/2013) switched to Short Term Rehab facility (Chicago as well) - $26, weekend differential $0.50, and got the health insurance after 8 months (open enrollment only once a year)... A lot of OT (which makes it $39). Really can not complain...
Home health PRN - $40 per visit.
Last Jun tried to move to Charlottesville, VA and the offer was only $19.10... So I've decided to stay in Chicago till next year...
I am not a recent grad, but I can give you some information.
First job out of LPN school: Lifecare nursing home $15/ hr. not worth it. Lasted 2 weeks including the measly "training" period. Horrible experience with panic attacks, etc.
Second job: Group home for intellectually disabled. $16/ hr. Much better experience, but still felt rushed and constantly stressed.
[re-evaluated my choice for career in nursing about here]
Third job: began in home health. First case $23/ hour and was a high risk stressful case (this was in Winston-Salem, NC. First two jobs were in Chattanooga, tn)
second case : $18.50/hr. was an ok case.
Moved back to Chattanooga. Continued in HH.
Fourth job, with a home care company (different than home health), $15 hr hospice pt
CNA work for $8/ hr
Fifth job (current job): Maxim home Heath. Have had 5 different cases, all paying $18/hr. love my current case for the most part.
still waiting for the big bucks lol. But I realize that the more you make, the more stressful the job, and I have health issues and am doing well to do what I do (adrenal fatigued chronic fatigue, methylation issues, etc). Really trying to not job hop, but I feel like I should be making more by now. I have been an LPN for 6 years.

Acute Care hospital LPN pay without previous acute care experience in Indiana is $14.35 but with shift differentials it averages about to $16.50 .... in those few places that still hire them.
