Sign-on bonuses

Hi all,

First off, I would like to say that I am a full time lurker and part time poster to this forum, but I am addicted to reading these threads. Anyway, I'm a new grad out looking for that first gig. And I find myself staying far away from nursing homes that offer these 5,000 and 3,000 dollars sign- on bonuses. Only because it's a signals to me that these nursing homes must have a high turnover rate and needs to do something drastic rather than fix the real problem. Or maybe I am being too narrow minded and should realize that these bonuses are a good thing. I don't know, what do you guys think?

A company that offers a sign on bonus does not always mean that it has a high turnover rate. Ive been offer sign on bonuses in the past by companies who have expanded their services and need a large number of nurses to fulfill those needs. So keep an open mind and do a little research. Just ask if you're interviewed if there is a high turnover rate,

The facilities in my area that offer large sign-on bonuses are usually problematic places of employment with bad reputations in the medical community. The better facilities can easily attract and retain workers without dangling large amounts of money in peoples' faces.

I have to agree with TheCommuter. By and large the facilities that need to offer huge bonuses are having some kind of retention/reputation problem. I am sure there are exceptions, but I am betting they are few and far between.

I also agree with communter. I am sure there are exceptions like skwlpn said but I am still staying far away from those places that offer these huge bonuses.
