  1. I found a job 2 months after I recieved my license, those 2 months were pure hell because my bills were mounting.
  2. Hi, Have you looked into online RN programs such as Colleg network, etc?
  3. I also agree with communter. I am sure there are exceptions like skwlpn said but I am still staying far away from those places that offer these huge bonuses.
  4. Hi all, First off, I would like to say that I am a full time lurker and part time poster to this forum, but I am addicted to reading these threads. Anyway, I'm a new grad out looking for that first gig. And I find myself staying far away from nursing homes that offer these 5,000 and 3,000 dollars sign- on bonuses. Only because it's a signals to me that these nursing homes must have a high turnover rate and needs to do something drastic rather than fix the real problem. Or maybe I am being too narrow minded and should realize that these bonuses are a good thing. I don't know, what do you guys think?
  5. I don't know about the five boroughs, but have you tried Rockland Boces in Rockland County NY. I just finished the program this month and they did not require any pre-reqs. However, I am not sure if it is too late to get into the program at this time but you can still try.
  6. Hi, If you are thinking about going for your Master degree, maybe you could look into a degree in Library Science and maybe become a medical librarian, just a thought. That way you can combine your nursing backround with working in libraries, a low stress, however less money, working environment. Or maybe you can try looking into nursing informatics. You can PM me if you need more info on the Library Science degree. Take care, Missi30
  7. May I add that even if you attend a LPN program that is only approved by BON and not accredited, that LPN school may have an articulation agreement with local colleges/universities, which means that that college/university will allow you to test of certain courses. Therefore, you can avoid repeating basic nursing courses you took in your LPN program. I hope that made sense.
  8. Thanks again, AlexisRn46. I did start a thread on what's the best place for a new LPN to work in SE Florida but no one responded. However, I will keep on trying. Also, I like your suggestions and will certainly give them a try once a get my license, of course.
  9. Thanks AlexisRN46. Sometimes I feel like I am wasting my time getting this LPN license. I want to try and avoid working in a nursing home at all cost. However, I am finding out that it may not be possible.
  10. Does Baptist hire LPNs? thanks.
  11. Hello tinderbox, Your post is very, very interesting, I actually have my library science degree and I'm in nursing school (LPN). So, I am doing the exact opposite of what you are going to do. I've been a librarian for several years now and have always wanted to be a nurse, so I've just decided to take the plunge and go for it. I actually work part time as a librarian and a cna while in nursing school. I think eventually I will go into medical librarianship, which actually combines the two fields. You can PM me if you like for info on grad school and/or librarianship, I would be glad to help you out. Good Luck!!!! missi
  12. Rockland county boces will graduate 6/08, if all goes well.
  13. I would be a dietician, I guess I love food and has always been interested in what is does to the body.
  14. I have a bachelors and master degree from a previous life. Currently, I'm pursing my LPN and will most likely get my RN BSN. Then I will be be done with school, finally!!!!!!
  15. JennyMac, Hi, I used to work 10 blocks away on 165 and did not have any problems. And my father works at the nursing home on 167 and grandcourse for 20 years and everything has been great. You will find crime anywhere, whether it's the suburbs or an urban area.
