LPN/LVN rate of pay in your area.

Nurses LPN/LVN

This topic has been around before, but I was looking for something more up to date. Things have fluctuated in past two years or so. I know people are always looking for salaries and most of the time its for RN's. I'll start ;-)

Around the Cincinnati area here I'm not sure about the starting pay or pay in hospitals for LPN's. But I know LTC facilities are about 16 to start ranging up to about 22. I've seen ad's in the paper saying $24 but I don't know what that was for. Agencys are about 21-25 dollars for LPN's also. I believe Jobs are plentiful around here! Also when I was up in columbus, I heard an instructor saying they are starting their LPN's out with $27-30 while the RN's get about $40-50 ..I don't really believe that, but I just tossed that out there maybe for some clarification?

Do be mad about $10.50 because in Mississippi starting pay is $9.02 for LPN's

I wouldn't even get out of bed for that LPN pay rate at all what so ever!!!

That like a slapp in the face and specially if that is the rate for a LTF please those old people can sit and wait for me to attend to them...I wouldn't do it all. :angryfire

i don't know about north, :angryfire but here in the ole south we only make between 9.00hr to 13.00hr for new grads................... :angryfire :crying2: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
that is an insult to your career and a slap in the face....lolololo :rotfl:

Ive recieved a few PMs about WHERE in CT I work, and the pay (depending on WHAT you want to do) can range from low 20s to 30+ an hr. and THIS IS in Hartford County. but basically the whole state has these competative pay rates, one simply has to look for them.

my wife (again) makes 30 plus as charge nurse for REHAB, 32 hr a week, full benes.

My daughter rakes in close to a grand a week working for the county VNA as Pshych. nurse, ALL she does is drive to pts homes and administer meds and chart, ect.

I do POOL or AGENCy work, I choose my jobs and can yield up to around 35.00 hr, depending, but I add we ALL work 2nd shifts. ( base is 32 an hr but some pools pay more). Pools do offer benes too.

Hope this answers some the questions as to "where in ct", ect.

EDIT TO ADD: I know it. In NY state, many nurses both RB and LPN come over to work here on WEEKENDs. A few agencys offer 2 8hr shifts @ a high rate pay, BUT this is for sat and sundays, they pay for a matel, assign you to a facitliy for the 4 shifts, as I say pay for lodging and some for food, but the PAY rate is higher, and we have a LOT nurses every weekend doing this.

I wanted to add this for the post below and for any others who may be able to benefit? I have yet to meet ONE who "didnt enjoy this".. most the shifts tho are LTC facilities. Hope THIS helps, if interested pull up

and check the ads out, I honestly havent looked in a while cuz I have all the assignments I want and can handle,, I have been doing hths for over 15 yrs,and the agency knows what MY needs are and are good about assignments, and one can deny an assignemnt if they choose,, a win, win sitaution,, IF you like LTC. I never would settle for these LOW pay rates, PERSONALLY. Much luck to all.

Well an update from my part of the world: While I make 13.50 as a new grad (14.50 with my evening diff which is my assigned shift once I get licensed) I have found that the going rate for GPNs in my area is closer to $12.50 an hour. The most I've seen offered to any of my classmates was $16.00 in dialysis. I am so disappointed, I just KNEW the pay was better. Oh well, it pays the bills and I am due for a raise in January. (But if we weren't a two income family- OH BOY!)

LPN's do the same thing as RN's in the hospital setting and in any setting. Can LPN's around the United States ask for a pay raise.

My friend is a BSN and she stated that most of the LPN's she work with are better nurses in knowledge and experience as the seasoned RN's. She also stated that a LPN mentored her to be the great nurse she is today. She is still trying to encourage her mentor(LPN) to go for her RN because she can run circles around the RN's in her hospital.

What Do You Think,

I disagree. The LPN duty is NOT the same in all areas of the profession. In my hospital system there are NO LPN's. The hospital no longer hires them because of acuity reasons. I was an LPN for years before going on. I do find many similarities of duty in the homecare and LTC areas but not at all in the hospital setting (but this is my hospital system and not all hospital systems are this way). I do however believe that LPN's have a vast knowledge that should be used and given credit for prior work. To me, it seems silly to ban them from the hospital when we could use them--especially since they can do many of the duties. The book work and generals add up to a few more college years for RN's and they should be compensated for it. Overall, all nurses should be paid more L & R's!!!!

Hi, I am currently paid $20.53 at my full-time home care job and make $22.00/hr working prn at ltc facility in PA.

Well, in long term care, for a NEW nurse, we make 16 dollars an hour to start out. The pay goes up a dollar for shift differential.... so 17 for 2nd and 18 for third. Also, LPNs with more experience get paid more.

State facilities like the jail, and school start about 15 an hour.

Hello! I speak no spanish and my friend speaks minimal spanish. I think $16 an hour is very reasonable. White Acres on the westside is nice. SunsetHaven on the east-side of town is supposedly turning around. I think there is a place called Coronodo nursing home that really isn't very nice, but the wages seemed pretty high. El Paso Nursing home wasn't that nice at the time, but I believe they paid well. Don't worry about not being bilingual--there is a true shortage of nurses out there. Also, many SNFs use med aides that will free-up your time to perform other tasks. I would recommend living on the westside of El Paso if you would like to feel more comfortable about not speaking Spanish. Just exit Redd Rd. and drive up the hill in the direction of the mountain. I really enjoyed living there. The cost-of-living is quite reasonable and the people were friendly. Also, many facilities do have only Spanish-speaking residents but it's amazing how well you can communicat with just a few words, pointing and smiling :)

We have a Coronodo nursing facility in Abilene TX. IT is AWFUL! I really fear for the residents. I wonder if they are owned by the same company?

Does anyone what is the starting rate for and LPN and please be very precise either $ Hospital, $LTC, and last but not least $ Agencey also what is the nice part to live in for a family of 4 (2) boys age 13 and 6 and (2) Adults and not an expensive area either but, a nice and deceant place no ghetto area either lololoo  :p

I don't know about Wisconsin but I just got some quotes from Bradenton, FL if anyone is interested.

One assisted living 12-15/hr.

One nsg home 16/hr for new grads. My six years got me 17/hr.

Another nsg home would have paid me 17.50/hr but it is farther away (and through more horrendous traffic) so I chose the 17 one.

I don't think that is too bad for the south. I know moving from Pensacola to here I got a 2.50/hr pay raise. Cost of living is a little higher though....but, not THAT much, especially after IVAN.

I agree. That little piece of paper with your name on it and the date of graduation make all the difference in the world. And yes, the more one goes forward with education to learn more and get more in depth, the more they should be compensated. I am a new LVN in a LTC and I started out at $15 an hour. The local hospital that does hire lvn's start new gradsout at $11. the agency nurses where i work report $25 - $30 an hour for LVN.
