I work in LTC/rehab. I love my job and my residents. There is one resident who does have a psychosis makes it a point to pick at me. I don't know why but he does. He went out with family and returned late missing a scheduled med. He asked for the med when he returned and I explained that it was pass the time frame. He began to yell and scream in the hallway disturbing others. I was advised to just give him the meds with an Ativan. He took his meds but not the Ativan. I asked a supervisor to see if she could get him to take it which he did.

Well on my day off I got a phone call asking me to write a statement because he complained to the social worker that I tried to bribe him and hold him in his room. Of course this is when state survey is taking place. What do I do. I feel frustrated because I work hard at my job and if a resident gets upset or says something out of character to me I don't take it personal. Everyone has a bad day right. But it seems like this guy is going out the way.

Going forward, I would not medicate this resident myself. Obviously in his mental illness he is believing you to be something that is not happening. For your own protection, someone else needs to medicate him, or at the least 2 of you go in.
