Hello everyone. I have some questions regarding the limited permit for lpn. I am a foreign educated nurse and currently I am in New York City. I have already applied and submitted my application faorms for NCLEX-RN to NY State BON and to CGFNS CVS and CGFNS is currently verifying my credentials. As a foreign educated nurse, I have few questions to ask regarding the application for licensed practical nursing limited permit. I have not yet taken the CGFNS exam and I do not have any CGFNS Certificate yet. My questions are:
1. What are the requirements for me to apply for LPN limited permit here in New York?
2. May I apply for licensed practical nurses limited permit even though the CGFNS is not yet done with the verification?
3. May I apply for the licensed practical nursing limited permit even though I havent taken the CGFNS exam because on item number 9 of Form 5, there is a question if i have already succesfully completed the CGFNS or CNATS?
Thank you very much and I am hoping for your response.

What visa are you in the US with?
You will not be able to work as a nurse even on the IP as NY need to eval your training first. You are not sitting the CGFNS exam just CVS

Since you are applying to be RN your permit would be for RN, also you have to find an employer to satisfy the board

Non-U.S. educated applicants seeking a limited permit as a registered professional nurse must also have their credentials verified by an independent credentials verification organization (see "Verifying Education Credentials From Non-U.S. Programs") and document successful completion of the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) Certification program (the CGFNS examination and the Test of English as a Foreign Language); or a score of not less than 400 on the Canadian Nurses Association Test (CNATS) given in English. Non-U.S. educated LPN limited permit applicants also need to have their credentials verified by an independent credentials verification organization but are not required to complete the CGFNS Certification program.
Until your transcripts are evaluated by NY BON you can not work as either LPN or RN and looking at the previous post you need CGFNS CP exam to work on a limited permit and by the time you sort all that out CVS should be completed.
I would just stick with waiting and studying or looking for a non nursing job whilst waiting
Hi Silverdragon102 and MedSurg32RN. Thank you very much for your reply. I am now informed regarding this matter.
I agree, I don't know why the poster was looking the permit as PN since they attended school for RN. Also you have to find an employer willing to hire you with a permit.
