LPN Licensure for RN'S?

Back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, when i was in a BSN programand finished my Junior Year , at the U of Miami, I was allowed to take the Florida LPN exam, I did it in 1973, and got double min. wage that was $3.65 an hour to pass meds weekends. Man I was rich, really I was making $1.60 an hour in a clothing store.

The reason for one state but not another is the state has already ok'd the program, and another would have to research the school.

It can't hurt. Especially if you are planning on working while in school... go for it.

I would love to hear more about this as well.... I have heard this from this another RN student and can't find any information on this either through the NH nursing association.... I am also a RN student finding it hard to make ends meet while in school......

I did it. I was in a program in MA, not many years ago. I graduated in 1999. After your third semester, as long as you've taken maternity (talk to your instructors about this, to be sure you get a maternity rotation in on time), you can sit for your LPN in NH. And then, if you get it, I believe you can get reciprocity in MA. I think that part is silly. They should just let you sit for it in MA. Anyway, I should mention that I was in an ADN program....I'm not sure what the timing would be for a BSN program. Good luck!! :)

See!!!!! It is good to listen to us oldie goldies once in a while, it is also good practice for the RN boards as well.

Just remember the LPN is sposta report it to the charge nurse, in RN school, you are the charge nurse................good for you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks so much for that information. Even my instructors were unsure as to whether you could sit for the LPN test after a certain point in your RN schooling. Did you find the LPN test difficult? I have a ways to go before I get there but I would like to prepare early. I'm finishing my first semster of an ADN program. Again, thanks so much!

Have you taken OB? Make sure you have had med surg pedi and OB You must think as an LPN, the one who is not the charge nurse.

CTRS, I'm not sure if you were asking me, but I did find the LPN test difficult, but I was SO relaxed for it!! I honestly didn't care if I passed or failed....I took it as a 'practice', like BarbPick mentioned. My thinking at the time was, "If I pass, great! If I fail, at least I'll know what I'm in for!" LOL Not to mention, I only had one semester left to get my RN, but what if I failed the last semester? At least I'd have my LPN to work off of until I could get back into the RN program. Everything worked out for the best, I passed my LPN and got a job at the same hospital I was a CNA at. They didn't technically hire LPN's, but they KNEW I'd have my RN within a few months, and were glad to hire someone who already knew the hospital and was familiar with the patient population. Talk to the NH BON to get all the details, but you can't lose just taking the test!! Just make sure you get maternity in before the end of your third semester! :nurse:

I have applied to NHTI for the 2005 LPN program and am currently working on my "needs" list. When will you be taking your exam? do you live near concord?
