Hi Everyone,
I am currently an LPN student with the hope of graduating June of 09. I currently work in an unrelated field that pays well enough to cover my tuition and books. I want to gain practical experience and would love to work as an STNA (I am certified) but simply cannot afford to leave my higher paying job.
My question is will it be difficult for me to be hired as an LPN upon graduation? :uhoh21:
Thought I would update my OP. I did take a position as an STNA in a sub-acute rehab facility and have been there for 8 months. I have since graduated and passed boards and am hoping to be tackling my 1st LPN job soon. Either at the facility I am at or an assisted living/alzheimer's facility. The aide experience has been invaluable. So to answer my own question yes! having STNA experience was very much needed. Thanks to all those who have added their thoughts and wisdom.

I live in mid-Michigan and I am getting more offers than I can shake a stick at. It's amazing. I have three interviews and more in the wings. I'm working toward my RN degree, and I'll be finished with that in December of this year. I hope the good luck continues for that career path as well. :)
it will be even better..........
I was my class valedictorian, straight A's, perfect attendance, great references, etc. Could not get a job interview in CA. I moved back to Vermont and got a job the first day. It's a dreadful place - I got a job in a doctor's office after just 3 months of experience and start next week. There are not many jobs here for nurses, very few for new graduates. Even fewer jobs in quality places. Sometimes it is just luck. My new place hired me because the job is low-paying and they weren't getting any resumes.

I just recently got my LPN and sent out applications a week ago. No one said they were hiring right now. Good luck when you graduate.
