LPN,ASN, or BSN

Published

I recently moved to Slidell. I am only going to be living here for 3 more years. I have been looking for nursing programs around this area. The only one that I found is Delta College for an lpn. I would rather go for an RN/BSN since I do have some pre-nursing courses already. I am not sure that 3 years would be enough time for one of those programs. Also since I will be moving around alot I am wondering if the lpn or rn license will transfer state to state? Any help would be appreciated.

Does anyone know if Delta's lpn credits will tranfer to an rn or bsn program.

No it will not carry over because it's a private college.

You won't have any trouble transferring state to state. As for Rn school, you have to work as an LPN for a year and then you can test out of some courses. At least that's my understanding. It doesn't have anything to do with the school you went to so much as it has to do with you being a LPN. I'd think about where you wanted to work. If you don't want to work nursing homes, LPN might not be right for you since that's where the most money seems to be. Then do CNA and you won't have all the debt that you'll have with delta.

Personally, I'm doing LPN and then getting my RN. I didn't take out too much money for school and I think that working as a LPN will help with getting my RN. Also, not getting accepted to my RN program of choice helped with that decision. I'm really happy with the way things have worked out. Good luck!

I would go speak to a college advisor whether it be at a community college like Delgado (off Old Spanish Trail in Slidell) or to a university such as SLU, UNO, LSU or some other large college. This way you can figure out what you need as to what you've taken already. I could help tell you what you need if you are interested in getting your ADN from Delgado/Charity School of Nursing bc I'm a student there as well. I can't help you with the others bc I haven't attended them. If you want, list the classes that you took and I'll tell you how much further you've got in order to be able to apply at CSN. CSN usually takes 6 mos to a year waiting list to start and then you've got another 2 years to go through the program (4 semesters with summers off).

butrfli, I would like to attend Charity. I talked to an advisor the other day and she said my transcripts are competative. I need: A&PI lab, A&PII and the lab, Microbiology, and Psyc 127. I signed up for the TEAS. I plan to put in my application this Sept. The worst thing that can happen is they throw my app in the trash, right? I have 4 children, so what does your schedule look like? What hours and days?

You don't that much more to go. If you apply for Sept, you are most likely to get accepted for next fall. This will put you right at the 3 years your looking for. Just be sure to get all the pre-reqs done before you actually start the program bc there will little time to squeeze another class along with the studying, care plans, and clinicals. Good Luck!

Thanks for the advice butrfli, Is Micro tough? Can I take A&PIlab with Micro?

Tried to send you a pm butrfli but it will not let me.

First semester consists of basics which is usually 2 days and can range from 9am to 12pm, sometimes till 2 or 3pm on both days and then you'll have a pharm class to take one day which is usually an hour and a half. After about 8 weeks of basics you'll start clinicals which are two days a week every other week and you'll have skill check offs to do at school which is a separate scheduled time of your choosing.

Second semester consists of Nursing of the Adult Client 1 (NAC 1) which is 2 days a week and clinicals 2 days a week. Prior to going to clincials you have to "pick up your patient info" at the hospital the day before. Clinicals for every semester is the whole day usually from 6:30-2:00pm depending on which hospital you choose. You won't take another Pharm class but you do need to take a calculations class at the beginning of every semester and make a 90 or above in order to pass. They allow you three chances to get the grade otherwise you'll have to drop the whole semester.

I haven't had 3rd semester yet so I can't give advice as to what to expect.

I didn't think micro was tough. It was interesting so I found learning the material easier. I had a lab to take with it also. I took it with my AP11 lecture and lab and pre-calc. I think you can handle both.

i'm taking micro online at delgado right now and i don't find it hard at all
