What are the lowbed/enclosure bed policies in other hospitals? We just had a visit from JACO and we now have to consider lowbeds as a restraint and enclosure beds may only be used on nero and rehab.

Don't forget... according to these "inspectors", patients have the right to fall.

...and according to lawyers to right to file a suit. Ridiculous!!!

But, of course, according to the National Quality Forum, falls are never events.

I tell you, if anyone figures out how to keep all of these health care monitoring agencies happy with their wildly differing agendas....that person can count on an immediate nomination for sainthood (having performed a miracle of the highest order).

How is a lowbed a restraint? I personally believe that enclosure beds are less dehumanizing than a posey vest and 4 point restraints--at least the patient can move around in there.

JCAHO kills me. They are so big on patient safety yet they do not realize that restraints are part of that. Believe me, we wouldn't use them if we didn't have to. We are trying to keep people from killing themselves!
