I got into a BSN program with a 3.2 GPA
At NSU they take you based on your interview (well at least in 2005 they did). you interview with a pannel of instructors and the dean. and they ask you general things like why you want to be a nurse and such.... and I guess depending what you say, they accept you.
as you see my GPA wasn't great, but my interview was :-)
I did not make it there, as it was super hard for me.... I wound up at BC and did great, and now I've been an RN for 2 years, and I am getting my BSN online at FIU for half the cost of NSU. definitely failing a course at NSU was a blessing in disguise because I don't pay loans now :-)
Wow that's great! Good Luck on your continued studies! =]

I'm on the west coast, but my undergrad GPA wasn't great and I was still able to get accepted into an accelerated BSN program at a reputable university. However, I did get A's in the nursing pre-requisites that I took after getting my bachelor's degree, including anatomy, physio, and micro.
For my school, and I'm sure for others as well, undergrad GPA wasn't the most important factor in accepting students. If you did well in other aspects, you definitely have a good shot. For example, if you have a lot of hospital or medical experience, or like I was able to get a great letter of rec. from a fairly influential person, and I think that helped a lot. When I went to an info session for the program that I will now be attending, one of the admissions advisors even told all of us that if you had a somewhat low undergrad GPA, but then showed improvement later on, it wouldn't necessarily have a negative impact on your chances of getting accepted. She said that they can be understanding of these types of situations.
Obviously with the crazy amount of competition these days, it's probably still going to take a little while and a lot of work to get into an accelerated BSN program, but don't feel defeated just because you didn't have a high undergrad GPA - there are those of us that were still able to get accepted, even with our sub-par GPAs! Keep working at it and don't give up! Good luck! :redpinkhe

i doubt it is possible due to the amount of applications. i relocated to find a program that will only evaluate their applicants based on their "nursing" prerequisites. i had a 2.3 gpa when i graduated in 2006 but i am at a 3.8 with my pre-nursing stuff.
find a school like mine...
or find a school that randomly selects people.
otherwise, good luck.

Hi guys I am new and i havea similar issue but i just really don't know what my options would be.
I have an associates in criminal justice, finished witha 2.7 gpa, then i went to baylor university and ended up with 1.8 because i took 18 hours a semester and i was working and nothing went right. Now i am in nursing school third semester and have a 3.5 at a community college.
What would be my chances in getting into say U. of Maryland, Im not sure if i would have to return to baylor to improve my gpa..
Can anybody recommend schools that i could get in for the RN-BSN programs.
Any help in advance would greatly appreciated, thank you lots...

Hello. @ IUNRN. Did you graduate from IUN? If so, how was your experience at the school? I have read various types of comments (good and bad) regarding IUN. Can you provide any insight regarding the program? I am contemplating either IUN or Valpo and need HONEST input from ACTUAL students who have successfully OR unsuccessfully went thru the prog. ANY insight that you can provide would be greatly appreciated! Thanks !
