Love it!

Just wanted to say that I LOVE MY JOB!!! I wasn't sure I was cut out for the ER, I am so very new at it and have so much to learn, but the teamwork that has been displayed and I am lucky to be a part of is awesome! After reading negative post after negative post lately (I lurk quite a bit on this site), I wanted to throw something positive out there. All I can say is "Wow!", what an experience! :redpinkhe:redpinkhe:redpinkhe

Welcome to our clan!

It's a world onto itself.

Not for everyone but for those that find it's their

niche it will forever change your life. No greater

application of critical thinking skills paired with intense

hands-on experiences than emergency medicine.

Enjoy...

You give me hope I will love it. Thank you! I start my ER adventure Aug. 1! Nervous, excited, and can't wait!

It's a fun ride, with anything there are good and bad. I do know I'm not cut out for floor nursing, I also know ED nurses are a breed of their own. We are a tad outspoken.

I think you see negativaty as many of us need to "blow off steam" as while it's an awesome job, it can be stressful.

My first preceptor said something wise. She said ED nurses are a jack of all trade master of none, you always have to be on your game and you have to read read read. It keeps you ahead of the curve

Cokeforbreakfast (me too! I am so bad! I really should do better!) I had images of what I thought it would be like on a daily basis and about scared myself silly! Like I said, I am brand spanking new in the ER so I still have on my rose colored glasses. I hope they stay on and I remember this feeling years from now. I have a wonderful preceptor and lots of support. If I had been "thrown to the wolves", I would never survive. It is a different world. I wish you much luck with your adventure and hope you enjoy it too! Congratulations!

ErinBSN, I meant no disrespect about the negative posts, I vent too and I know how much it helps. I have learned a lot from the vent posts. Especially how not to be as a new nurse and a new nurse in the ER. I just wanted to put a positive out there. I love to learn and love that I see so many different disease processes. I am encouraged to ask questions at work and I come home and research too because I want to fully understand what I am dealing with on a daily basis and how I can better care for the patients I see, especially with the limited amount of time I have them. I am only a jack of some trades at this point, but trying very hard to add the tools to my belt to work up to jack of many trades! I fully understand the analogy!

The whole atmosphere in the ER is different than the other floors or facilities I have seen (school and previous employment). A couple of years ago, I would never have imagined myself here. Now, I can't imagine anywhere else I want to be. I feel so fortunate to be getting so a good start with my preceptor, co-workers and facility.

Emergencynrse: I am honored! I had (still do) so much respect for ER nurses (all nurses :redpinkhe). I didn't think I was cut out for ER nursing though. I am glad I took the plunge!

Thank you for your replies! :D
