I work at Loudoun and pay rates are better than $20/hr for new grads. Shift diff is $4 sun-thur on nights, $8 fri and sat. Benefits are very good considering what is all out there. We have just merged with Inova and have heard many many rumors that a "significant" pay raise is coming... (in excess of $5/hr) soon... but so will higher nurse/pt ratio's. I work on Post surgical but right now it is a mixed bag... we have medical, oncology, telemetry and surgical patients on this unit. can be a nightmare!!! But a great place to get your feet wet, learn lots of new info, and skills. Mary Lutke our manager does hire new grads! Good luck!

i currently work for inova and i have to say that i would be highly surprised if there was that significant of a pay raise coming... current new grad salaries at inova are $20-$21/hr... and our shift diff is the same as loudon's... as an intensive care nurse with 7 yrs experience i only make $26/hr.. so a $5+ raise would be quite amazing if you ask me... and... i haven't heard any rumors about another "market rate adjustment" anytime soon... as a matter of fact, i know that inova is rather happy being "middle of the road" when it comes to pay rates.... not trying to burst your bubble just being honest

How could that be? Isn't there a set pay scale for new grads? Did those two people have experience? I hope it was not some kind of discrimination : /

I reside near Fairfax And I'm Canadian--but didn't move down here because of nursing, moved down here because of my wife, lol and am now a nursing student. I know INOVA Fairfax and Reston hospitals start out around $25 an hr plus shift differential for new RN grads!
Personally i rather live back in canada or anywhere but the DC region!! Traffic is crazy! I prefer smaller locations! I havent heard of that mnay hospitals around here offerign $$$$ bonuses. Maybe they do that for the foreign nurses for incentives, but to be honest, i won't be startin gmy job hunt for a few more months as i dont graduat till may 2009. Both my sisters are RN's in Alberta and BC and they make a very good wage!!

is it difficult for American nurse to want to work in Canada? The training is the same right? Would I just need to get a work visa?
