  1. I disagree. I know of several individuals who flunked out of nursing program at one school and was accepted into a nursing program at a different schools and one was readmitted at the same school she flunked out at. BPeaceful, hang in there, you can do it and you will succeed. I read your other posts and saw you passed your 2nd exam. Great job!! Keep up the hard work! And don't let other people's negativity get you down!!!
  2. I have a prior degree with a GPA of 2.99. I was accepted in the GMU's 2nd degree program for nursing. However, I still had prereq to take. The pre-req classes I needed were full at GMU and my advisor told me to see if I can take the class at NOVA and then transfer it to GMU. Well, that's when I found NOVA has a nursing program. NOVA is much cheaper than GMU especially for a pre-req class. I also found out that to be an RN one only needs an associate degree in nursing and many hospitals or facilities have tuition programs to help pay for nurses to obtain their BSN/MSN. Needless to say, I registered for NOVA to take my pre-req and now in NOVA's nursing program. Have also learned NOVA has a higher NCLEX pass rate than GMU students and NOVA students get more clinical time. You might be surprised at the number of 2nd degree students at NOVA, we are many!! :)
  3. sorry to hear you had a negative experience with your advisor. Mine has been great, explaining ways to study better, how to get used to test questions and especially get in a study group. Glad to hear you brought your grade up and are going to stick with it. in terms of grades, we are in the same boat.
  4. We had our first test on Monday. It takes a week before the grades are posted on Bb. We won't get the test back, and if want to see our test, we have to make an appt with our gate keeper, at least that's what was said on Monday. I guess that too can change by next week. Our lecture is taught by a different person each Monday. It's really confusing when you have 6 different instructors giving you their own take on what's in the book. I bought the study guides, I saw your suggestion from another thread thank you. My grade keeper is a different person from my student advisor. So far I have had 3 different instructors for lab. I don't have enough space to complain about my lab component, lol. I hope things get better. I have my first clinical Thursday.
  5. I agree. I go to my first clinical site Thursday and have already heard the facility is very strict and has a lot of "wealthy" sick people.
  6. I've not been in this forum much. I'm in my 1st year of Nursing at NOVA and there is much information to learn. I'm in the traditional program and it seems fast paced to me. The nursing dept seems very unorganized? Are they always this way or just this year because of new changes? I need some advice, I'm very overwhelmed. Thanks for any input/advice. I still don't get the role of the Grade Kepper.
  7. Hi, a student in my NAS 161 class (2 semesters ago) is now in the LPN transition program. She was able to test out of medical terminology. hope this helps.
  8. is it difficult for American nurse to want to work in Canada? The training is the same right? Would I just need to get a work visa?
  9. Have you thought about Respiratory Therapy? They don't clean up poo but they deal alot with sputum, :)
  10. Thank you so much! Ur responses has been very informative and helpful. Thanks again!
  11. one more thing, go to your closest library and check out some books on English and Math, work through the practice tests; then retake your NVCC placement tests, you might be able to test out of English and Math and save yourself some time and money. That's how I worked it.
  12. Hi, It has taken me a bit longer because I was working full time, taking one class a semester and still deciding if this was something I wanted to do. I tested out of Eng 111 and Math 151, which was great because that meant 2 less classes to take. I have already taken Psy 201, 202, NAS 161, 162 and medical terminology (HLT ?-forgot the number, but agree it is an easy easy class). It's taken me 4 semesters. If you go full time, prereqs will be done quicker, possibly in 2 semesters-depending on how many classes you take a semester.
  13. I have pre nursing jitters--I'm waiting on my acceptance letter for Fall 08 nursing program. I've been to the MEC and it's a nice campus. I wanted to know how was your 1st year? What's it like? how many books did you have to buy? Do you use the same books for the entire program? or new books for each semester? When do you start clinicals? Did you have life outside of studying? All welcome, Thanks! :)
  14. Lorton (Fairfax County) checking in... I'm a student at Northern Virginia Community College. I just finished up all my prereqs at the Woodbridge campus. I'm waiting on acceptance letter for Fall 08 Nursing Program. I'm a little anxious since this is the first year NOVA's nursing program is competative.
  15. Hi, I will hopefully be a NOVA nursing student in Fall 08. I was wondering the same thing as Nstudent88 on subject of the books. Thanks for posting the question. The next 2 months I will be reviewing my A&P book and going over math concepts. I'm nervous about what to expect, I keep hearing how hard and the training is and what wonderful jobs the professor do. Good Luck!
