Internships at GW Hospital
Hi boilernurse23, thanks so much for your post!! The program at GWU sound great. I'll be graduating in early August and I'm really interested in the new-grad program at GWU. I tried contacting the nurse recruiter last week to find out how to apply for the program, but I haven't heard back. Is there a website that describes the internship? Also, how did you apply for the program, and how far in advance did you apply? Thanks so much!

NVCC or GMU
Just to clarify...the GMU 2nd degree program has more than one clinical class (otherwise it would never be accredited!)...There are six: fundamentals/med surg, pediatrics, OB, psych, community health, and preceptorship (what ever unit you choose)...Also, to set things straight, the program is an entire year, not two semesters. Students graduate in August, not in May. While it is extremely stressful (and you need to kiss your social life goodbye for a year), the school prepares you well to be a nurse. NCLEX pass rates are generally on par with NVCC. While it is true that you get paid almost the same, having the BSN has its advantages. Attend an info session at both schools. Don't let misinformation from those who are not in the program inform your decision making.

NYU nursing
duplicate response...sorry

NYU nursing
Unfortunately, these posts are a combination of 2 things--a naive, young, and excited nursing student, and a more experienced nurse who seems to have fallen into the dreadful, yet common trap of older nurses eating their young. Perhaps the reality of NYU and nursing, in general, is somewhere in the middle of these replies.

GMU 2nd Degree Accelerated Program--Admissions info
Hi all, Can any past applicants or current or recent attendees of GMU's 2nd degree accelerated program give me any information about admissions. The program staff have told me that it is very competitive, but I'm still wondering exactly what that means--what GPA's get accepted (and are those GPA's for the nursing pre-reqs only or for the entire prior bachelor's degree), do they value and consider prior work experience, etc...? If there are any current or recent past students out there, please let me know about the program, as well. How are faculty and administrators? How many hours are you in clinical each week and attending classroom courses each week? Also, how many hours are you dedicating to studying outside of school each week? One final question (I know I've already asked a ton!): Applications are due in March...when did you get notified of their decision? Early June or late June? Thanks!
