Los Angeles Harbor College Fall 2012

U.S.A. California

Published

Hi everyone! I've sent in my application for Fall 2012 at LAHC, and already took my Teas 5 for another school but I haven't heard anything yet if I've cleared the first lottery. Two of my friends are in their first semester at LAHC and both said it took a long time to hear back regarding admission.

Anyone hear anything yet?

Make sure that the school you attend accepts a vaccination instead of a titer, if you decide to just revaccinate. Some schools are picky and want to see antibody counts. A friend of mine needed to get an MMR and still needed a titer a couple of weeks later. So still had to get both. You don't want to spend the money on vaccines if they are going to require a titer either way.

For first aid, do you mean BLS training (basic life support for health professionals)? That's what most nursing programs require. It's offered through the American Heart Association. And you can usually do both CPR and BLS in one class.

Hi guys,

I got my acceptance letter to Harbor College last Friday for the upcoming Fall 2012 nursing class. I hope all you guys that are listed as alternates get in because I'm pretty sure some will decline their seats for various reasons. For the people that are still waiting to get in a program, remember the saying, "when there's a will, there's a way."

I graduated with a Journalism degree from CSULB and nursing will be a complete 180 from my current career in sales. I've been in sales for fourteen years, but I felt that I was not passionate about my job. My mom was a RN at Kaiser in West LA for 30 years and even though I would see how stressed she was from a long work day, I could see the passion she had for her career.

Can't wait to meet you guys in June!

Hey MMorisawa, I got accepted to LHCC for the fall as well. I currently live in San Clemente, CA but would rather move near the school. I don't want to move in with someone who could be annoying. Would you be looking for a roommate?

hnguyen509

what pathophysiology book is a required or necessary read for LHCC nursing program? Can you give me the name or the ISB #?

Is anyone who has gotten accepted to LHCC looking for a roommate for the fall semester? I would rather move into a place with a fellow nursing student than some one who does not share my same goals. Connect with me on facebook! [email protected] or my username is Mishael Martin! Peace!

Hi Andrew! Congratulations on getting in. This is a career change for me too - I'm a former NYC chef. I've been working in nursing administration in a local hospital for the past 18 months, and attending LAHC while working on my pre-reqs for the last two years. You'd think that, plus good grades and passing the Teas V, would get me off the alternate list :). I hope so.

Good for you for following a career path which will prove more rewarding. I read an interview of newly enlisted Marines going to boot camp on why they joined, and one of them replied "People worry, on their death bed, if they made a difference. I'll never have to wonder about that", and I couldn't agree more. I think that's so important. As a nurse you make a huge difference every shift.

Welcome to the forum Andrew! I'm also doing a 180 in my career. I've been a graphic designer for the last 6 years and it's just not for me. I'm definitely interested in doing something where the difference is made on a human level, not at the bank and land fill. Both of my parents are nurses and my dad actually just started his nursing career a few years ago. So I see how tough it is but I'll feel more fulfilled in the end.

See you in June!

Did they send you guys the Orientation Info. yet? like location, time ... ?? im wondering if Alternates are invited to attend or not.

Mishael, pathophysiology book ISBN: 9781416055433. CHECK THIS OUT : gettextbook.com and enter ISBN.

Wow, San Clemente is far from LAHC. is it near Oceanside? did you apply to Saddleback college too? That's one of the best nursing school (ADN) in CALIFORNIA. Make sure when you move up here, choose the right location coz some clinical will be far from LAHC too, such as Downey ... check this out : Clinic Information . Good luck !!!

Congrats Andrew, welcome to the forum. Im medical assistant at a clinic in Fountain Valley Regional Hospital. I have chances to talk to many doctors, nurses... They're such an inspiration for me. I love my job, sometimes it's kinda stress tho.

LovetheER, I talked to ****, there are more than 60, maybe up to 70 accepted students this fall. They sent out 120-130 invites to take TEAS V. wow. it's a big class. Alternates were ranked already. Im nervous, good luck to me and you. They said they would contact alternates soon, maybe next week since theyre checking on how many ppl turn down their offers.

wilowitta, did LA COUNTY send out letter to u yet? I think my friend got her already. she's LVN-RN tho. Also, LAHC accepts vacinnation or titer too. CPR and First aid, BLS are also neeeded. where will you retake the class?

Good luck to me and you is right hnguyen509! I am keeping my thoughts positive that I'm starting in August. I've worked so hard all this time, it will work out I keep telling myself - and you're doing the same right? The nurses at my work have told me that alternates get pulled all the time, relax, and that's what I'm forcing myself to do (even though every time an e-mail comes in on my smart phone I check it right away). One guy I know who works at LAHC told me that it's most likely, that if we're going to get pulled as alternates, we will find out when the people LAHC was expecting don't show for orientation. That's when most alternates find out about their spots. When is orientation, do you know?

Orientation is June 26.

wow... we do Not even get informed to be there on the orientation day. lolz. When I called, they do not "know" ( they do not want to tell ) how LAHC nursing selects alternates. lol Another lottery? or ppl who are on the top of the alternates list will be called (emailed, get invited to the orientation day) first?

Yes, I know alternates often get a call. But why dont they let us know where we are on the list. I do not even wanna give myself a hope if they tell me I'm No. 30, 40... why torturing like this? lol
