Hello! I decided to open up this new thread for those applying for Spring 2014 entry at LA County College of Nursing. I recently took my TEAS for the first time, and I'm so relieved that it is over! Now the wait... A bit nervous about the whole process, but I am very hopeful. Anyway, just wondering who else out there has applied!
@goldenheart10 I went to my provider and she filled it out for me. I wasn't sure what else they needed to I just had a print out of my all my labs and titters, as well as the summary of my physical.
I did the background check earlier today and submitted it. They told me once that's cleared, we'll get an email and schedule to come in for our health clearance with Olive view.
@slicksGIRL I haven't purchased my books yet, but I have been trying to compare prices at places like Amazon.com. Some books are available and some aren't. I think I'll just get what I can online and get the rest at the bookstore to purchase. If anyone knows of a better place to buy textbooks aside from Amazon.com, please post - it's getting so expensive and definitely putting a dent in my savings! Btw are you at the LAC+USC site or at Olive View?
@goldenheart10 I'm just now getting my titers and immunizations updated with my own healthcare provider and he is actually filling out the forms himself as I go. I'm going to get as much done with my doctor and then take the rest to County. But if you've already had your immunization stuff done in the past, then just do what @slicksGIRL did and take your printout summary to county.
And no worries about being able to respond right away @shk69816.
@jdc2013 I actually went to half.com. I also went to Amazon. But for the medsurg book I purchased it at elsevier. I think it retailed for $158 but I was able to get it for $126. During the pre-reg they said that it's best to get the recent editions for all our books. What I did was, for all the required textbooks I bought all new editions. But for the recommended I got older ones. So I was wondering what everyone else was doing. Tell me about it! The uniforms itself cost me $130!! So far I've spent close to $600 for the books and uniforms. My clinicals are at Olive view. How about you?
@slicksGIRL I completed my live scan on Friday so I believe I have quite some time left to wait for it to clear. When did you do yours? After it clears, I'll call & schedule to do my health screen. So much to do so little time!!
I've received a majority of my books from Amazon and am just waiting now for one last package to arrive.

Do they contact you when you it clears.. or you have to call them after certain amount of days? I know exactly what you mean! I'm glad I got all my health forms and titters done tho! And yes, I did the same. Did you get all the recommended books? Or just the required ones?
@slicksGIRL I think I remember the lady at Olive View say that the school would contact me when the results are in/cleared. In case I don't hear back by Friday I will call them to be certain...
Those health requirements are a bit time consuming, but I'm glad I was able to get it out of the way as well.
I bought all of the required and recommended books. I figured they were recommended with good reason & luckily we will be using the recommended books throughout the program. I checked LACCNAH website on the previous years syllabus and book list & it's pretty similar to the one we have now, with the exception of edition numbers. What about you?

I'll try calling them on Tuesday if I don't hear anything back by tomorrow. I did the same thing, I was jst wondering what others were doing. I remember them saying during pre-reg that we didn't have to get all the recommended books right away.. we could get them through out the semester. How much have you spent on books so far? How about your scrubs, how many pairs did you get?
@slicksGIRL Please keep us updated if you're cleared so we can estimate when ours would clear too!
For books I spent $650. YIKES! I bought them all through Amazon and a mixture of new/used. I only have ordered 1 pair of scrubs. Once we receive our uniforms, if mine are the perfect fit, I'll order additional pairs.

@goldenheart10 @jdc2013 Hey guys sorry for the late response. I think the live scan schedule I got only applies to the LAC+USC clinical site. I received an email last tuesday regarding the appointments for the live scan.
