Looking for tips on getting hired Sacramento/ Roseville hospitals

Published

Hi! I'm looking to relocate to the Roseville area this summer. I'm currently in Minnesota. I have a BSN RN, I will have 2 years experience in a Med/Surg floor, ACLS, charge nurse, and preceptor experience. I will have my CA nursing license by the time I apply. Has anyone else had experience getting hired out of state? I'm looking into applying at Dignity health, Sutter Roseville, and Kaiser. Does anyone know if any of these hospitals offer telephone interviews? How long this process might take? I'm worried I will not be considered as a candidate since I am out of state. Any tips would be great!

I just recently applied/accepted a position at Dignity while out of state. I did obtain my CA license prior to submitting my application and made sure to include a cover letter highlighting my move date. I will say that I also applied to an open position with Kaiser and was turned down immediately (even though I was more than qualified for the position). I have heard that Kaiser is more competitive and pays better. Who knows if my out of state status affected my chances?

Dignity allowed me to do my first interview over the phone but they did ask that I fly out for a second "in person" interview to ensure that my personality fit the team's needs. I was able to speak frankly with the manager to let her know that I would only fly out if I was the top candidate. Everything worked out great and i will be starting in 2 weeks!

Best of luck in your job search!

@ CheezeETs-Great..I am also trying to move around Roseville area. How do you like working for dignity so far? Do they offer relocation bonus /sign-up bonus? How much do they pay for the nurses? I have BSN with 2years of telemetry exp. Thank you

@Kfitz_9917-Hi There, did you apply in any of the facility at Roseville yet? I am waiting for the CA license to be endorsed. Any advice?

hi cheezeETS im also planning to transfer to california and im form florida , if u have time can u advise us on any updates ? hows work ? relocation assistance ? and specially pay (i have my family with me :p) ? thank you very much !

I did get my CA nursing license. It took me 8 weeks from the end of January to the end of March. I did the fingerprints by mail. Unfortunately Roseville doesn't have a lot of job openings. Three weeks ago I began applying for jobs around Sacramento and Roseville. No luck yet. I'm getting turned down for most things but I can attribute that to my lack of experience. Sutter Sacramento and Mercy General seem slow with getting back to me but I am keeping my head up. Hopefully someone get back to me soon.

Since you have a BSN, I would suggest looking also at UC Davis Medical Center as they preferentially hire BSN nurses (almost exclusively 100% of their hires are BSN or higher) and look at Kaiser Permanente. Sutter, Dignity Health, and Kaiser all have multiple facilities in the region and while UCDMC has just one major hospital, they do employ quite a few nurses. This time of year there are a LOT of local nursing students that are applying for positions based on an expectation of passing the NCLEX within a month or so. From Roseville, you can get to any of the local hospitals within an hour so the commute time really isn't all that bad.

Also remember that the hiring processes can take a while unless you happen to know someone that can speed up the process. I am most definitely NOT such a person. When I first graduated, over the 10 months that it took me to land my first job, I submitted a bit over 300 applications and I hadn't applied to all the positions available... just the ones that I was even remotely qualified for. It took me about a month to land my second job and out of about 20 applications, I got 3 interviews, one of which ended up with an offer. Keep working at it and you'll eventually find a position.
