Looking for tips on getting hired Sacramento/ Roseville hospitals
I just recently applied/accepted a position at Dignity while out of state. I did obtain my CA license prior to submitting my application and made sure to include a cover letter highlighting my move date. I will say that I also applied to an open position with Kaiser and was turned down immediately (even though I was more than qualified for the position). I have heard that Kaiser is more competitive and pays better. Who knows if my out of state status affected my chances? Dignity allowed me to do my first interview over the phone but they did ask that I fly out for a second "in person" interview to ensure that my personality fit the team's needs. I was able to speak frankly with the manager to let her know that I would only fly out if I was the top candidate. Everything worked out great and i will be starting in 2 weeks! Best of luck in your job search!

The VA hiring process is very interesting. I feel completely overwheled by the number of emails I am getting from them about vetpro, secrurity screenings, physicals, ect. Did you all recieve a barage of emails within a 2 day period.....it seems like they want me to get my info to them asap.

Do Rn's need to know alot about health records/coding?
It honestly depends on which area of nursing you would like to get in to.......... I recently moved from a hospital setting (where I wasnt expected to know anything about coding/billing) to an outpatient facility where I am expected to knoweverything. I am kicking myself for not taking advantage of extra classes when I had the oppertunity. If you need to fill some gaps in your schedual you might as well. In this job market every little bit helps!!!!

In over my head?
I just wanted to say thank you for all of the feedback. I know that I am in over my head but I guess I just wanted to hear it from other nurses to validate my concerns. Its hard to eplain to friends and family that mistakes in our careers have potentially fatal conciquences-------non medical people just keep telling me to suck it up and do the job. Thanks again-----I will be talking to my manager on Monday to find out what expectaions he had for me in the first place....

In over my head?
I would just like to run this by a few of you............any advice would be appreciated! I just took a job last week at a hospital based pain clinic (invasive procedures such as radiofrequency ablations, epidural steroid injections, discograms, ect...... most with the use of conscious sedation). I have no previous experience with procedural pain management but with the economy the way that it is I was extremely happy to be offered the job. The interview went fantastic and I was told I would have at least one month of orientation to the clinic. First day on the job I learned that the only nurse (my mentor) that knows how to do the procedures will be leaving this week. That means my orientation will consist of 5 days before that nurse leaves for 3 whole weeks. I am not ACLS certified and I have very little experience with conscious sedation and I am expected to run an entire pain clinic by myself after only 5 days?!?!??! I am extremely overwhelmed and honestly scared out of my mind. I won't even be able to see all of the procedures by the time my mentor leaves and I am expected to know how to run an entire clinic (up to 25 patients a day). I am also concerned about the legal aspects of the clinic. Two physicians operate out of the clinic---one who conservatively does procedures on 4 pts a day, the other who sees 20 pts in a 5 hour block and not only expects the nurse to administer the fentanyl and versed but also expects me to be able to monitor the pt and be his personal scrub nurse at the same time. I just feel in over my head. What do you all think? Should I just try to do my best of bring this up to my manager and the HR department at the hospital?? Thanks

Parking in Downtown????
I have a quick question about working at Queens......... I'm new to island and I have noticed that a very big problem for the hospitals in the down town area is parking???? I had a recent interview at Queens where I was very impressed, but I am concerned about the parking situation (day shift). Is parking an issue for other nurses working at this hospital or is it manageable??? I've heard the bus system is pretty good but I would prefer to drive myself. Are there other parking lots in the area? Any info would be appreciated!

Why???????
Well I took my NCLEX today and I'm pretty sure that I failed.........I almost cried when my computer shut off after only 75 Q's I am soo dissapointed right now I dont know what to think. I thought I studied hard, but the test was nothing like I though it would be. I had TONS of prioritizing questions (which pt to see first...........) Which Im assuming means that I didnt even get to any upper level questions. Does anyone know if this is true???? I also wasnt even asked anything about disease processes or meds (maybe 3 or 4 Q's)....Plus, I only had one medcalc Q and one select all that apply. :stone Right now I am completely stunned, I feel like I studied for nothing..... I read over 2000 pages of Saunders and ATI test prep books (out of which only THREE paragraphs were actually devoted to prioroitizing pts!!!!!!!!!) I just dont understand!!!! Does anyone elese feel like this right now?? Any adivice would help!

Seeking Valuable Advice in Jax FL, Which Program/ School to enroll in?
Hope you don't mind if I jump onto your post a little late, but I have a little more adivce to offer you.... I personally went to Jacksonville University to obtain my BSN and I was very happy with the program. Unfortunately, the high cost of tuition does limit the number of applicants willing to attend the school. However, if you are an out of state resident the two schools tuition's are pretty comprable. I know both schools offer financial assitance and scholarships (thank god for scholarships!!!!! ) . Basically, what I'm trying to say is that you really need to analize the break down of what the two schools have to offer. I know I may be a little biased (because I went to JU) but JU is a private school with an excellent reputation in the Jax area. Almost every single one of my fellow graduates had a job before they even graduated, most were hired immediately from their pracitucum experiences!! JU also offers some clinical experiences that are not available at UNF (this may not matter if you are not interested in those fields). Lastly, a good thing to do before you decied on a school is go to the hospials in the area and ask them which grads they perfer to hire first. I'm not ashamed to say I did it !!! Higher education cost a lot of money and you need to be sure you get a school that meets your needs!

FL grad needs help registering for CA NCLEX!!
Hey everyone.... I recently graduated from a BSN program in Florida and I just found out that I have to move in !!!ten days!!! (husbands in the military). I had previously planned on taking my Nclex in FL, but now I wont have time.... I have begun investigating on how to apply to take my Nclex in California and everything looks good but one thing[/u]. I cant figure out what my nursing school has to send to the board office to release me to take my boards (and my school wont help me find out) :angryfire . I know in the state of Florida the school must forward your name to the nursing board before you can even register to take your boards. Does anyone know if CA has the same requirements?? I have called CA Board office to ask many times!!! and they only say that the school has to forward a copy of my transcripts. This just seems to easy . Does anyone have experience with being an out of state grad appling to take the Nclex in CA??? If so what did you have to do??? I thought my stress level would decrease after finally graduating but it keeps going up!!! Thanks for any help!!!
