Hello- My husband and I are considering moving to Pittsburgh in the next year or two. Just wondering about the hospitals there. I have looked on the internet and UPMC seems like the big one there, but it seems like there are several hospitals affiliated throughout the city. What is the pay range in Pittsburgh, currently I have 7 years experience and work in a short stay surgical unit of a large medical center. Also any one who lives there that would be willing to share some info on areas or info about schools as we have small kids. We would like to live close to the city. Thanks in advance!

UPMC is the main hospital system in the area. Highmark also just bought the other health system West Penn Allegheny Health System. If you look at UPMC website you can search the careers section and at the bottom of the job listing is the salary range. I work at UPMC Presbyterian which is the largest hospital in the area and we are a level 1 trauma center. UPMC Mercy and Allegheny General are also level one trauma centers as well. The pay scale in the area is lower then most of the country. Most new RNs in the area start at $22.

One great area to live is in south hills or in bethal park. Bethal park school district is one of the best in the area. It is a small commute to the city.

Sorry for any typos. I am on my iPhone.

I believe that newgrads started at $25/hour at The Washington Hospital, Washington, PA. New-grads, no experience. That hospital was higher than others in the area. I believe they no longer hire associate degree new-grads, but I am not sure what the deal is for experienced RNs. Washington Hospital More of a rural area, and low income area, and they have a lot of elderly and low income patients from what I saw there as a student.

There are hospitals in the Mon Valley, and also Canonsburg, but I don't know what they pay.
