Hello,
The allnurses member Kaylesh may be able to best answer this question, but I cannot private message her yet (still have less than 15 posts...) -- everyone else's replies are greatly appreciated.
My girlfriend (of years) just obtained a professorship at St Andrews in Fife, Scotland. I will complete my BSN in August and want to join her there. According to the NHS, it looks like I need a year of experience before I am allowed to work in the UK. I am trying to figure out what other options I have...
Can I work a nursing internship in Scotland? Do they exist?
Is it a better idea to take an auxiliary post in Scotland now or is there no hope of ever becoming an RN that way?
Is it possible to go straight for a Master's in the UK (without practicing)? And then is it possible to practice in the UK if my Master's was obtained there?
Any other ideas?
Thank you so much for the help.

Hi there
you will need 1 years experience before the NMC will look at registering you and unless your registered there will be no way of working as a nurse in the UK so you won't be able to do your year here.
Working as a health care support worker won't help unfortunately
Masters programs in nursing will require you to be a registered nurse, they may accept your US qualification but even if you get a Masters degree the NMC will require 1 years experience as a basic registered nurse in your home country before registering you her
