Looking for ER Nurse Job in Chicago,IL

Published

Specializes in ER.

I have been emergency room nurse for 5 years. I have certifications in BLS, ACLS, TNCC

Sorry no new ideas. Chicago is a really hard market right now. You may be better off just taking any hospital position and then trying to do an internal transfer to the ER after 6 months or a year.

Thanks for replying.. yea thats what I'm hoping to do i am applying to any open position but once they see that I'm an ER nurse, they won't even consider me. :(

Why do you think they aren't considering you? Seems like you'd have a lot of good experience.

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

Chicago is a tight market. Have you tried downstate ?

its hard here in Chicago especially if you live in another state ....

try getting a travel nurse assignment you have a lot of experience the travel agencies would jump for a chance because you have a lot of experience /certifications. they are normally like 3-4 months and pay for housing .....while on assignment you can apply to places and have a better chance of getting calls back since you are actually in the area....or network inside wherever your assignment is for a perm job

or if on linkedin try and network with some of the recruiters in the Chicago area or er nurse managers they might can put in a word for hr to pull your resume ....networking is key in Chicago for any job

plan a trip here. call some of the places you applied and let them know you will be in town and really want to move here perm.

Specializes in Med/Onc, Infusion, Telemetry.

Shaniarose, are you still looking for a job? With your experience I am surprised you haven't found one yet. Hopefully you have by now since it is more than a month since you last posted.

I think for Chicago you need to have your Illinois license before applying or they won't even look at your application. Second , a lot of hospitals in Chicago want/require a BSN. Do you have a BSN or Associates degree?

Either way, I wish you luck.

I'm an ER nurse too, ten years exp and also ACLS, TNCC, ENPC, etc, but when I moved to IL last year I had to take a SNF job. It sucks : (
