Hi, I'm trying to network with other new grads, or almost graduating students of an LVN program who's also looking into an ADN, RN or BSN online course. Other students from other states are also welcome but I'd like to hear from other Californians because it seems BON in Ca. are not accepting Excelsior graduates. I've been researching but so far I've come across Deaconess, RUE, The college network and Indiana State Univ. Don't know yet if they're the same status as Excelsior here in CA. as in banned by BON. All info are welcome. Thanks in advance
Regarding Deaconess. I was in discussions with them and was excited but then when i told them I lived in CA they said that I couldn't do their online program if I lived in Ca. They themselves told me that CA doesn't accept it.Also, the Univ of Wisconsin, Oshkosk also states that CA did no approve theirs either.
Unfortunate, but I guess the good news is that the nursing shortage in California is apparently over.

Yeah ... people always make the argument that the state should accept these programs because of the shortage. But there really isn't much support for changing the requirements. What's being done here, actually, is to expand existing programs that do meet the requirements to take more students, and develop more flexible night and weekend schedules for working adults.
Just so you know, RUE and College Network (as well as Chancellor's, DSL {or DLS?} and many others) are not schools; they are merely companies that publish study materials for schools such as Excelsior. Buying your study materials from them rather than going straight through EC is waaaay more expensive, so anyone thinking of using a publishing company--- think twice and do some research before you sign a single thing.
So true. One of my coworkers is using one of the publishing companies. I gave them a call. Expensive. I'm so glad that I found this forum before I signed up. There are also some groups on Yahoo that help. It looks like all the information can be obtained without the enormous cost. It takes some research though. Hope this helps.
