long time nurse 1st time Nclex tester.

Published

I have been a nurse for 11 years. I just started studying for the Nclex. I am doing Saunders. I am worried because I am having a hard time finding some of the same rationales in my old nursing books. Another problem for me is that the American lab values are not the same as the canadian ones. ALSO there are devices that I have never heard of when I was doing my studies. I really want to hear from nurses who have passed even after being out of nursing school for more than 10 years.

Thanks

How about taking a refresher course at a local college?

I'm an Australian who has been out of school for 10 years, and hopefully will be taking it soon. I'm using Saunders and Kaplan, and just doing questions over and over. Saunders has a list of terms in it to explain unfamiliar ones. Just start studying and ask when you don't know. You can google lab values (they vary a little bit between hospitals, but you'll know the overall normals).

Perhaps after you've done all the tests in Saunders you can PM to Suzanne4, one of the moderators who helps foreign nurses pass NCLEX.

I recommend Suzanne's plan also. I didn't use her plan but she has a really high passing rate in passing NCLEX, especially in helping international students pass. Good luck!

Thanks for all the advice.

Yes Suzanne study plan is great, also kaplan is a very good and worthwhile investment.

Hi Augig, I am also an Australia nurse, i have just finished my degree and considering moving back to the states. I lived in TX for 3 years. Are you in the states now or still in Australia. How did you go with having sufficient amount of hours for usa registration, immigration, dealing with nursing boards etc? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Hi AussieRN1 - if you check the aussie forum, I posted in there about Aussies going to the US. I'm still in Sydney, waiting for my eligibility to sit the NCLEX. Hoping to be out there (Pennsylvania) by early/mid 07.
