My step-mother fell a few days ago while she and my dad were on vacation nearby and broke her hip. She was taken to Cooper and had a partial hip replacement and now has some other complications.
I've been talking to her nurse regarding her rehab plan and trying to get her home here in north Alabama. My dad is up there too but he is nearly deaf and I know he is missing bits and pieces of what the docs and nurses are telling me.
Can anyone tell me about Cooper and the area? I'm trying to see about getting my dad either an extended stay hotel or some hospitality room or something. I know that Camden isn't a very safe city but I need to do something.
Also, does anyone have a mailing address for a patient to get a card or letter? My daughter went off to camp for 4 weeks and wants to send her a card and letter.
any help is appreciated!

cooper is across the delaware river from philadelphia and me.... it is an academic medical center with top rated trauma care and center of excellence for orthopedics so your mother should be in good hands

patient guide has links for hotels & lodging.
see if space is available at the ronald mcdonald house , (856) 966-home for your dad to stay.
if mom unable to qualify for rehab unit, care one's south jersey health care center (across street from cooper) is available for snf subacute rehab to build her up enough to travel home.
case managment dept should be able to assist you in making all arrangements ---i'd call them monday to discuss your concerns, including dad too. provide them with the name of facilities/home care in your area for follow-up care.
discharge planning/homecare is my passion...please pm if i can be of assistance.

It is located in Camden and has a great trauma center. It is an excellent hospital and like the other people have said I would contact the hospital and I'm sure they will help you out in getting all the information you need. A neighbor and friend of mine is a Dr. there and I can tell you first hand they are a good hospital. Only someone at the hospital can tell you where would be best for your step-mom and dad to both get the help they both need as they know her specific injury and needs as well as your dad's current needs. I'm sure they'd even be able to help get them back home if that is what is best for her at this time. The Ronald McDonald house in Camden is for children who are ill and their families so I don't think they'd be able to help your dad.
I'd start out with calling the nurses station on your step-mom's floor to get her Dr.'s information if you do not have it and go from there.
Best of luck in helping from a distance but you can rest knowing she is in good hands!
