would you say that a nurse is considered a new grad post-nclex and with one year of experience?
would a nurse be considered a new grad if she/he has 6 month experience?
just curious...
i'm 6 months in and considering a new job, i was hoping that i wouldn't have to take a job that is new-grad friendly only....
feedback would be great.
I graduated little over a year ago. I still have lots of questions. I'm planning on sticking out this job for at least a total of 2 years. I'm sure as I go along something more satisfying will come along. Perhaps after the end of 2 years I'll realize I actually like the unit I'm on. Then on the other hand, I've always been the person to explore and challenge myself to learn new things.
After I graduated I had worked at a place for 6 months, then took a new job ..... I still considered myself a new grad at that time. Things were still new and I definitely needed a new grad orientation, and was happy that they gave me one.
I think most places consider the first year new grad territory.
Heck, sometimes I feel like a new nurse and I've been at it 6 years now.Sometimes I still wonder why 'new grads' are coming to ME with questions, when there are others far more qualified than I am to answer them....
I think most places in my area consider you 'experienced' after one year.
So glad I'm not the only one that feels that way!! When the newbies ask me questions I look around like "HUH?! Are you asking ME?"
I left my job after working there a full 9 months. I was getting used to it, but my husband got a better job about 60 miles away, so I really couldn't stick out a commute of over an hour, especially considering I was pregnant. I hope I can find a new job easily, because as you all seem to be saying, I am neither here nor there. I'm not a new grad but I am not really an experienced nurse either. I still feel like I am more valuable than a new grad, though. I am a lot more confident about my practice and time management etc.
Does anyone know where I can submit my resume to be tweaked and perfected?

As Tweety said at least 1 year experience. As a matter of fact, agencies around here (PA) and many travel companies require 2 years exp. and its not a bad idea.
