Anyone applying?
@ beth5278 I do not think your situation is greedy at all. Remember it's when the behavior is used in excess that is a negative. Let me give you this example:
Applicant 1 & Applicant 2 both have 8 points and both go to take the Hesi
Applicant 1 has taken the Hesi in two prior application periods
Applicant 2 studied the guide and used the practice test in the book
Applicant 1: final Hesi composit score = 3.89
Applicant 2: final Hesi composit score = 3.65
Which score is a more accurate assessment of true ability?
Again, in your situation, it was not greed or manipulation at all.
In all honesty, the reason others are unhappy about this and others are offended is becuase this means so much to all of us and regardless of our opinions what will be, will be.
I will be happy for anyone who accepted into the program since I know what it feels like to want something so badly that you ache for it. Seriously, I feel like a weight watcher's member stuck in a meeting next to a bakery! I can smell the donuts, see the donuts but I can't taste the donuts...
Oh and let us not forget what Dirty Harry (Clint Eastwood) said, "Opinions are like orificeholes, everybody has one" and (my addition) "only our own doesn't stink."
So hugs to all and hopefully by this time next week we all will have our answer...
....I took anatomy right out of high school and had no clue what i wanted to do with my life. I made a B in a&pI that was three years ago. i have since realized that I want to be a nurse and i have made the grades i want ever since i found that drive and desire for what i want. I retook a&p last year and made an A. I guess I don't understand how just because somene who retook a class twice is less capeable of being a nurse than someone who " got the information the 1st. time" And how does it make you "greedy" to retake a class? I want to succeed and do well. I don't think it was greedy at all when i realized what i wanted out of life and did what I had to do to get where I want to go. And explain please how someone "should be placed accordingly?" I don't see how people who retook a class are making you wait? Wait for what? If you have the grades and scores that you need to be accepted you shouldn't worry....
@Beth I think Pauseymo12 really explained what I was trying to say by posting the examples of being "placed accordingly." The post was not to offend anyone just "my" opinion of how the system is not "pure competition." At the end of the day I wish everyone the best of luck but am very hopeful that my score will get me in.
My last comment is that you really didn't read exactly what I posted because you are an example of a person that was not serious about a class at first and then retakes that class for an A. If you were taking an A&P class from the beginning it is very evident that you wanted to enter a health field. Therefore, you are taking offense to the comment because it applies to you! Not trying to start a war but don't send a nasty message if you don't want to hear the truth....... by the way best of luck!
We are all under a TON of pressure and there is no reason for everyone to be on here attacking eachother.
At this point, it is what it is and what's done is done. Either you are going to get in or you're not. The pressure right now is intense and I hope you all are able to find peace in whatever happens. GOOD LUCK :)
Just to add quickly....
I do believe that there should be an interview process. I think that they should interview everyone that has over a certain score. Maybe everyone over an 11 or 10.5 and decide from there.
I am not a very good test taker, but I can tell you that I am going to make a wonderful nurse. Just my 2 cents
@futurenurse.me.....didnt know i wanted to enter the medical field...was just a class my friends were taking. But best of luck to u as well...
Beth,
You do not and should not explain your reasons or circumstances to anyone. You did not abuse the system and honestly, the only people who's opinion you should worry about it is the nursing program directors.
Let me take a momma role (I've been out of HS for almost 20yrs) for moment...Sweetie, as you continue through your education and career, there will always be people who do not and will not give an ounce of understanding or empathy and 90% of the time they believe their intentions are pure. Also, many people will not like who you are or what stand for and it will NEVER make sense to you. The comments and insinuations can be hurtful and you will want to defend yourself and others for that matter but I have find that it is often a waste of energy. These people will not change their methods or actions.
Let me give you an example:
I grew up with a father who for the life of the man he could not say you did a great job. Now, I managed to be a single mother of 2, work full-time, and 4.0 student pre-nursing student and yet he still didn't respond with I'm so proud of you. No he said...
"Wow, I really thought you were going to be my slow child!"
At that moment I had a choice, I could take the comment as an insult or I could finally see that I had indeed succeeded at the one thing I had been trying to do all those years!
I had FINALLY EXCEEDED his expectations!!! I choose to take the comment in this manner!
So ok...back to a Momma's voice...Always Remember....
Someone's opinion of you doesn't have to become your reality unless you choose to accept it!
You deserve to be an valid applicant just as much as the rest of us. So CHIN UP, and just keep swimming!
Now... ya'll behave or I'm gonna take off my belt!
Wow, I go away for a few days......and come back to see bickering. Thanks to Pauseymo12 for being the voice of reason and the "Mom" of the bunch :)
I retook English 1301 specifically for Lonestar's scoring system. When I took English the first time, 20yrs ago, I could have cared less about my grades. Now that I am a little older and wiser, and paying for it myself.....I care a LOT more, so I retook English 1301 to get the "A". I didn't need it for any other reason, but Lonestar's scoring system. Does that make me a less desirable nursing candidate? Nope.
Good Luck everyone !!!!
And I too might have to retake Engl 1301(if I don't get in to either the LVN or ADN program this application period) all because I argued for a "B" on my final even though I could have argued for an "A" and probably got an "A." Arguing for a "B" made me feel honest, not that I didn't deserve an "A" because I really did write my bum off in that class, but I did not use the writing center and submit the same papers up to three times each to have the instructor give critical feedback like two of the other students in the class did. For me to repeat Engl 1301 will not make me a lesser qualified applicant because I had to do something over again. I have just returned to school after being out for 18 years, not like some that are just a few months or a couple of years out of high school. It just means that I know what I am doing the second time around and pratice makes perfect!!!

Everyone is entitled to thier opinion i guess... so we should all try to be compassionate and understanding to others situations, even if we don't agree.
