Lone Star Spring 2020 ADN

Published

From reading everyone that got into Lone Star nursing programs I hypothesized one very important point. Correct me if I'm wrong but if you get anything less than A's in English and A&P there is NO chance of admission.

The only instance I calculated a chance is a "B" in English, an "A" in A&P and a perfect 100% on the HESI. Other than that, A's in your classes with a minimum 88% on the exam is my observed formula for entrance.

I see why so many (myself included) get so worked up about the HESI. Anyone else taking the test next week at a Lone Star?

If anyone has taken A&P at a Lone Star over a summer session, how did you find attaining an A over the six-week period? Also, if anyone wants to part with a lab book...(?)

I think it speaks to the quality of education. If it weren't the case, why so many applicants? Maybe somewhere in the past it was believed that CC's like Lone Star were a lesser education. But since an ADN and BSN both take the same NCLEX-RN there must be some standardization. So when some deciphered that they'd get an equal education they opted for a CC. Besides, you can always do an online RN-BSN. ?

Well yeah, I understand all of that & agree with the “same nclex-rn” statement . I’m just surprised that someone who happens to have lets say B’s in the prereqs with a high Hesi score wouldnt stand a chance.

When it comes to nursing school admissions it is a seller's market. They couldn't just take everyone with B's and high HESI A2 scores. Say you had the aforementioned B's and a 95% on the exam. Your point total is 6.80 then. There are potentially well over 300 applicants who fit that criteria. Are you surprised by the number of applicants? That sets the admission bar. If only 50 apply for 50 spots everyone gets in (in theory). If even 51 apply they need something to whittle down to 50. Prerequisite GPA and exam scores do that.

Finished the exam. I didn't rush myself. I actually got hung up on the A&P as there were ZERO questions about the heart flow (just weird). I got at least 15 questions on musculoskeletal system. 5 on the endocrine system and the rest were scattered. Now to my scores:

Reading 96%

Grammar 96%

Vocabulary 92%

Math 88%

A&P 76% (just ouch)

Critical Thinking 850

Cumulative Score 89.60%

Total exam time was 121 min 0 sec.

We'll see where this puts me after next month. With an A in English and one in A&P I'll have a score of 7.56 to submit to Lone Star.

I really appreciate the volume of information available here. From those who took it and from the ones that will, thank you.

Until I get that acceptance email my fingers are crossed! ?

Congratulations!! Right there at a 90%! A 7.56 is a really good score too!

soon we will make a score chart like we did previously (once more ppl join the forum)

Who did you take for English!?

And when are you taking pharmacology? I’m taking it this summer!

I took English in California where I'm from. I couldn't get an open Pharmacology class this Summer so in the Fall for that. I need to recalculate as the score would give me a 7.58 (not that +.02 is big)..

Oh okay! And the .02 is a big different we have ppl with 7.37 that got in but a 7.36 was put on the alternate list. So every number cuts

If you take the hesi twice , can you send them whichever score is better or do they take the latest attempt ?

For Lone Star, they take the last one you did and use it for admissions.

I don't know how to inquire about a particular instructor at LSC CF. All I can say (I think) is the person teaches BIOL 2401 in Summer Sessions. Their initials are (MODERATOR EDIT OF INITIALS - PLEASE DO NOT POST NAMES OR ANY IDENTIFYING INFORMATION OF THOSE IN YOUR PROGRAM PER TOS). Can anyone PM me about how they run their class (if they took it)?

I'll be applying this round to Kingwood and CyFair with a 7.6 . Hoping it's enough to get me in because I do not want to take the HESI again.

I think you will. If you don't with a 7.6 then I wouldn't with a 7.58 either. From scanning this site it seems that during a highly competitive cycle our scores could be good enough. I would prefer not to wait and get in as an alternate (I don't need ulcers). I mean, I won't say no.. I surely don't want to retake that HESI. The next exam that long I want to take is an exit exam and NCLEX-RN!

I have a question about my HESI scores. When I go into Elsevier to look at each category I see my score and a "class average". I'm trying to figure out what "class" means. Best guess is among the 8-9 people that took the test in that center on that day. Or maybe all LSC campuses are connected and it means all exams across the Lone Star system. So, what does the "class average" mean?
