Lone Star Fall 2020

Published

It may be early but around this time, those applying to Fall 2020 are engulfed in an A&P course trying for the grades needed. Collaboration and early encouragement can only help. Fall seems to be the large cycle and a lot have had the same instructors. Some of us could even be sitting by each other in class and not know.

I know we cannot say who we are taking. I'm in A&P 1 at Tomball in a hybrid course. If I can be of any help I will do so. I have a study guide for A&P that's about 90 pages. In addition, I have a pdf of one of the books (I think it's Marieb).

Goodxluck in class everyone and hope to see you in nursing school in the Fall!

I use to feel that way too because in 2016 I was in the lvn program but you can’t go in with negative thinking. I have my bachelors too and I’m going through Rn adn because I can pay for it out of pocket. Im determined to follow my dreams. If this is your dream you can’t fear it. Pray over it and face it. You will do great we will do great. Positivity is key

You’re absolutely right! Thank you so much for your advice and words of encouragement!

I just couldn’t pass any lecture exams. Everything else like clinical and skills were not an issue, but I was also taken pharmacology as well at the time so I think that’s where I went wrong.

Hi I'm at North Harris right now, I was thinking about transferring. So far I'm passing all i did was study the powerpoint and read a little bit. I'm nervous because I have heard from a few people that Montgomery coursework is harder than Tomball even. How were the lectures? Do you feel the instructors were difficult to understand like just reading off a powerpoint? Or was it more so the exam questions were more in depth?

Omg really ? That makes me nervous. I want to be able to understand and pass not just barely pass. I’ve heard out of all schools they do have the highest nclex score

I understand the material it's just a lot of info and sometimes for the exams the questions can get very specific. We might be assigned to read 20+ chapters but its unrealistic to expect us to read all that in two weeks . So the powerpoint is usually a good summary of that and the parts you're unclear about or you know will be on the exam, then go over the textbook. Some professors make it a little easier on you and tell you exactly which pages you need to read.

We had to read out of 3 or more books and PowerPoints , but it was hard because you didn’t know what exactly to look over in the books until it’s time to take the exam and find out that you over studied and read pages you didn’t need. We had 4 professors that would take over and some would just read off the PowerPoints. I believe I just wasn’t a great test taker and I didn’t fully understand how to take their exams. Overall the program was great! Just make sure you read!!!! Whatever objectives they tell you to look at and you’ll be fine . I was taking pharm so I had too much on my plate and didn’t have time to fully study as I should , but that was my fault.

So, I wanted to apply for the rn program in Fall 2020 but currently I have an A in English, and a B in AP1 and in AP2. I have to retake my hesi because my score from last March will be expired by the time I apply. I wanted to retake ap1 to get an A but there's no class times I could do right now. I don't know if my scores are going to be good enough. Has anyone made it into the rn program with a B in AP1? Like maybe if they score high on the hesi?

With how competitive the program is it’s pretty much impossible to get in with a B in A&P. I thought I could get in with a B last application period (I got denied) so I had to retake it this fall semester. Each application period gets more and more applicants so the scores keep rising. A few applications ago a handful got in with B’s in anatomy but it just doesn’t cut in anymore..

What about if you score really high on the hesi? Like above 95?

I just calculated what your score would be if you got a 95 on the HESI, an A in English and a B in A&P and it would be 6.8 out of 8 which is what Lonestar uses as their score system. That’s the same score I had applying last application. The lowest score that any of the campuses took last application was a 7.3 and that was as an alternate. The scores just keep getting higher which is unfortunate. The other thing is if you were take A&P again in the spring, the application deadline closes in April so they can’t take your spring score even if you were to get an A. Luckily there’s 2 campuses that are open for the spring semester and there aren’t as many applicants. I hope this helps some.

Unfortunately she’s correct. I think somebody got in with a (B) but was an alternate at North Harris . With that being said that’s atleast a 7.4 out of 8 . I did hear each year it’s becoming more competitive but you never know. I said shoot your shot now and apply to both Rn & lvn . Then just re-take a/p this spring or even this summer to apply to kingwood or Cyfair .

That's weird. Last application period l had an A in English, B in AP1, and like a 92 on the hesi and my score when I applied was a 7. 09. Maybe they changed the scoring?

Maybe I miscalculated then. You should still apply, that’s a great score for the HESI.
