Lone Star Fall 2020

Published

It may be early but around this time, those applying to Fall 2020 are engulfed in an A&P course trying for the grades needed. Collaboration and early encouragement can only help. Fall seems to be the large cycle and a lot have had the same instructors. Some of us could even be sitting by each other in class and not know.

I know we cannot say who we are taking. I'm in A&P 1 at Tomball in a hybrid course. If I can be of any help I will do so. I have a study guide for A&P that's about 90 pages. In addition, I have a pdf of one of the books (I think it's Marieb).

Goodxluck in class everyone and hope to see you in nursing school in the Fall!

I know we need hepatitis B titer for sure for application. I know there’s a list for all the needed titers before admitting into school so you can have it done altogether. But you for sure need hep b first ?

Thanks so much! The list says there are three rounds needed and then a positive blood screening showing immunity submitted with application. I’m going to call Tuesday, but have those applying for fall already started the immunizations since it takes so many months? ?

Yesss, I have ?

NurseSultan,

Since you’ve already applied to the program, I thought I would ask you!Did you have to have all three rounds of the titers and screening done with your application in order for it to be turned in? If so did it take six months to complete? Thank you!!

I already had my hep B shot series completed last year (they are good for 3 years)

Were you vaccinated for Hep B when you were younger? Or is this your first time getting the immunizations?

Gosh, I’m trying to remember. I don’t recall ever going through an entire series. I read there’s an accelerated form of the immunizations that takes about 2 months...if i start that now i should be good for the application date. Have you heard of this? Thank you so much for your insight!! Freaking out a little bit and it’s Sunday so I can’t call and ask.

From where do you drive ? I would love to go to Montgomery but driving distance is killing me ! So I am picking tomball as my first choice I guess

I would call your doctor and ask if you have had the series, if you have already had them go ahead and get the quantaitive titer. If you haven’t had the series or if the titer is negative then yes, there is an “accelerated series” that takes 2 months. The CDC recommends the 6 month process, however, if you’re crunched for time the 2 month series works just as well.
My titer came back negative the first time and my doctor gave me an accelerated boost that a few other nursing students received and it made me immune for the next titer.
I would definitely call and ask your doc tho, that’s so important since the nursing department really only cares about the positive titers. If you’ve already had them and you’re immune there’s no sense in getting poked some more.

Also, if you have had the series and your titer is negative you need proof that shows you had the original 3 vaccines AND at least the first “booster” of the next series.

Have you applied for fall? May I ask what score you are applying with? I know you’ve warned me about CyFair not being a great facility ? but with four kids and distance wise, it’s what works best for me lol

There’s actually a fast track hep b vaccinations for people who need it sooner - let me see if I can locate that information for you. Are you applying for fall? Have you taken the HESI?

Thank you!! Yes, I am applying for fall. I took the HESI, so this is my last “to do”! I found some info online about the accelerated option. If I start it right away I think I should be good. Hopefully admissions doesn’t work on a first come first served basis!!
