Lone Star Fall 2012 ADN Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

Published

I applied to Lone Star - ADN program Spring 2012. I was accepted as an alternate. I am hoping to get a call from the nursing department saying there is a spot for me. If not I will be reapplying for the next application period for entrance to the program in the Fall 2012. Good luck everyone!!!!

Does anyone know when we can start signing up for classes? Do we have to wait for orientation or can we just sign up? Thanks for any help :) and Congrats to everyone!!!

In the past the schedules have been assigned at orientation. They usually hand out a packet of information along with your schedule. At cyfair you had the opportunity to trade with someone if u got either am or pm and wanted to trade with another student for what they had. The schedule is then turned back in with your signature and then the student center registers you in your class. I am not sure if all campuses have that option, but I know cyfair did at their last orientation.

Gmarks, oh that's a good idea! A girl in one of my classes had one and it was great...every one in our study group loved her, haha. She used it with OneNote so the lecture and notes she recorded with the pen would play in time along with the PowerPoints. Very cool. I'm just thinking I wouldn't have to drag my Powerpoints and notebooks to class if I can just take a tablet...there's no way I'm taking my laptop. I swear I'm not crazy...have you looked at the fall schedule? There aren't ANY one day clinicals up! Can't wait for orientation!

I hope I can get morning classes as I need to be home to take care of my Mom in the afternoon/evening.

And has anyone noticed that at Montgomery our clinicals will now be from 6:30-2:00 twice a week, rather than 6:30-7:00 once a week? In a way, this may be better, though I was hoping to get my clinicals done in one day a week and have the rest of the week free for studying!

Knightgal, It looks like they have lab AND lecture available on both Monday and Tuesday, though, so it's completely possible we could be doing class all in one day and clinicals two days, versus two days in class and one in clinicals. I'm hoping so, so we can still have two free study days! If they don't automatically do it that way, we should be able to trade it that way. I'd rather go to class 9-2 one day than split it up!

I want an ipad so bad but I'm not willing to spend the money just yet, but I still want the pp. in hand bc I'm an old fashion learner and I need paper.. lol Mont. school took down the schedule online. You can't go by the book at all. Clinicals are only one day a week. I know clinicals will be longer than they appear online though. The schedule will be given out at orientation and then we will have to reg. Its getting closer!!!!

My friends schedule at Mont. is 8-11:50 M for lecture, Tues 8-11:50 lecture, and 1-3:30 for lab, and Thursday for clinical and she don't normally leave until 5ish.

Lecture is the same time for everyone, but lab can be on Monday or Tuesday.. 20 ppl in ea one. Clinicals are either Wed or Thursday... they have 3 hospitals with 3 diff instructors, 2 are on Wed (st. lukes and m. woodlands), and Thurs(conroe)

Stephalump, I hope you're right!

gmarks, I put classes in my cart when registration opened, but it wouldn't let me finish enrolling. Katie at MC told me we couldn't until we attended orientation. If I got the schedule that is in my cart, it would look like this:

Mon. 9-12

Tues. 8-1

Wed. & Thurs. 6:30-2:00

But we shall see....

Oh they did take it down! Good, cause I didn't like it lol. I was preparing for a schedule like your friends...it's much easier to find someone to help with the kids at 5:30am one time a week than twice! I want an iPad, too! But the no-flash thing bothers me, so I may get a Galaxy Tab, instead. I wish I would've just bought an older model iPad when the new ones came out...I could've saved a bunch of money! My mon only spent $300 on hers that way. Oh well...hindsight is 20/20.

I emailed Amy and just got a response. For our first year, we'll be having 2 day, shorter clinicals, and we'll revert to one day clinicals during our second year. She did say the course schedule is correct, so we're free to plan using that, even though they'll go over it more in orientation. If you click "Browse courses" instead of search, the classes are listed in the catalog and they're the same as they listed in the registration system.I also asked her if we'll be registering ourselves after orientation or if they'll be giving us a schedule, and I'm waiting to hear about that! I feel bad about bothering them when we'll find out everything in a few weeks, but I figure I'm allowed since I never called or emailed about when we'd get our acceptance letters :-p

Edit: I don't think my 2nd question was understood, so the answer wasnt really relevant but I refuse I

Email 3 times! I guess I'll just wait for orientation!

Stephalump, I know what you mean about bothering people! Still, what can they expect? We've been working towards this goal for some time, so are anxious to know what's going to happen! I've been hearing about the 'Camp Wanna Win' thing, so I finally tried looking it up and found something at the NH site:
