Today is the deadline and as of 12:00PM there are no apps being accepted, so they say :chuckle
Okay for all of us that are waiting, this is our official I'm waiting , checking the mail daily :imbar, going crazy
, biting my nails
, at the edge of my seat
, can hardly concentrate on anything else :typing, Kingwood and Cyfair Spring 2009 awaiting thread:yeah:We still have a while to go before letters are going to be sent out but let's keep each other encouraged and cross our fingers for everyone that applies!
So who's with me? What are your points and where did you apply- Kingwood or Cyfair?
Good luck future nurses
You all should be hearing something soon, well at least Kingwood. Last year I received my letter for spring the beginning of Nov. I had to choose which program I wanted, day or night and which orientation I would attend. So I started spring 08 will graduate either Aug or Dec 09. This is because they may allow some students to enroll during the summer to allow them to graduate and get their license in time to apply for the new nurse graduate programs at the hospitals offered in Jan. Otherwise, you may attend the new nurse grad programs in June. Anyways, good luck to you all and see you on campus!
Thanks soso, hopefully we will all see you on campus!
I'm sooo nervous about getting in...Sooo I have to chat because it keeps my mind off of it ...Does anyone know anything about the letters..I was wondering about the denial and acceptance letters..Are the letters thick or not..
I was just curious so I would know what to expect...
good luck to all ...not much longer
Oh thanks Mody for telling us something else. I'm glad that I'm not the only one that is literally sitting at the edge of my seat. Txmommy- we can chat because I need something to keep my mind occupied. On the pre-nursing board there are some of us that are starting blogs to document this triumphant time, I have already started mine and let me tell you, it has been good to tell somebody (something lol :chuckle ) what I am feeling even when it's 3AM :chuckle
Mody- Can you tell us about the program? You are at Kingwood correct? Do you go days or evenings? How is lecture and how are the labs? One thing that I haven't asked anyone where are the hospitals located for clinicals, what hospitals does Kingwood go to?
I go evenings at Kingwood. The lectures this semester are in a small classroom, in the spring we will move to a teaching theater as the transition and regular track students combine. In lecture you will learn about nursing concepts and disease process. In the lab you will learn your hands-on skills such as dressing changes, airway management etc. The environment is very supportive and the instructors don't seem to thrive on intimidation, they would rather you know the material and succeed than fail out of the program.
Stay ahead of the material, nursing is like a foreign language or algebra, all future material will build on past material. If you don't understand a concept get clarification right then because if not it will cause you troube throughout school.
Kingwood students go to a variety of hospitals depending on when you are scheduled for rotations. Some of the facilities include Conroe Regional, Hermann Northeast, Kingwood and LBJ.
Any other questions I can help with?
Thanks Mody :redpinkhe you have covered alot of the questions that I do have that I have been bottling up. I don't want to ask too many questions because I feel like I am bothering you guys but it has been so helpful hearing from others such as you, Soso, Stacy and Hypocaffemia of what to expect in the program. Here are some others if you can help me with I would truly appreciate it!'
- -What happens after you get the letter and you are accepted. Do you take your letter directly to Kingwood, fax, and how is orientation scheduled?
- -What did they go over in orientation?
- - How was the first semester of the program? What was covered?
- - Are there overlapping classes like HCC has such as 8 weeks for Med Surg and 8 weeks for Med Surg II or something to that effect?
- -How has clinicals been?
- -Do you have any advice for others that are coming in behind you.
See I told you I had alot bottled up Thanks for all your help!
i have a question..we take Rnsg 1172 during the mini mester if we get into the nursing program for the spring of 2009? Also, is there any CPR classes offered at Kingwood??
I meant to tell you hello a few pages back so Hi :loveya:fellow Kingwood applyer! Are you going for days or evenings?
As far as CPR check the CE catalogue for listings if you want to take it on campus, but you may be better off finding a fire department or hospital offering CPR for Healthcare Providers because they tend to offer it more often. You will need to be CPR certified before your first clinical rotation. This would be a good thing to have done before January. Make sure you take CPR for Healthcare Providers!!
I didn't have to take 1172 so I am not sure, but that info. should be in your acceptance package. Also you can go online and check the Spring catalogue and see if it is offered as a mini-mester class in December, if it is then you will probably need to plan on taking it in December.
Everyone that is in nursing school or is currently a nurse has been where you are, so you are not bothering me at all. I remember checking the mail everyday looking for my letter! I hated that there was no mail on Sundays!
Your acceptance letter will have instructions on how to "accept" and therefore secure a spot at a specific campus (Kingwood or Cy-Fair) You will need to fill out the accpetance form and fax, mail or hand deliver. This way they can see if there are open spots for people who choose not to accept and they can add some alternates.
At orientation they will handle info. like making sure all your immunizations are done (or will be in time), how to register for the classes, what books to buy, uniform specifics and other general info. Bring a notepad and pen to jot down info.
Kinwood and Cy-Fair have differently structured programs so depending on where you go the information is presented differently. Cy-Fair is a block program Kingwood is not.
Clinicals have been great. You are not expected to know everything about nursing on the first clinical rotation (or 2nd, or 3rd etc.) They understand that you are a student and are there to learn. Be professional, have a good attitude, come prepared, be on time, and you will do fine. You will come across things you don't know how to do and that is okay. Ask questions, ask for help!
As for advice, two things. Be prepared and have a good attitude. Do your readings, study, ask questions, use your resources to be prepared for class and clinicals. And keep a good attitude, if you go to a clinical site with a bad attitude you will have a bad clinical experience. Period. The nurses are busy and the patients are sick or hurt, they are not there to prop you up. Smile, be helpful and take advantage of every learning opportunity presented to you!
