Lone Star College Fall 2016 hopefulls?

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hey everyone I was starting a thread for all the fall 16 hopefuls for all the campus's at lonestar!

I take my hesi feb 18 and nervous doesn't even begin to describe my feelings!!!! Lol, I think I'll be okay on the math portion, it's the grammar and a&p that are causing my sleepless nights!!! Predicates, me or I, prepositional adjectives? Whaaat?? Lol and then a&p because there's soooo much and you have noooo clue what to focus on. I'm a bundle of nerves to say the very least lol

How about yall?!

My first choice is going to be kingwood, then maybe cyfair or north harris, I haven't decided yet, I want to get this test out of the way first!!

And can ya'll believe hcc closed their program down this year..... I was upset about that that was my first pick!

Hi everyone!

I am super excited to see a new thread on this topic! I tried to start one last year, but never got any replies.

I took the HESI back in November 2015 and I scored an overall 92.80%. That test has been a real challenge for me. I had to take it three times before passing. I only missed one section - A&P - every time by just a few percent. It was so discouraging and embarrassing. This time around I studied a different set of material and it paid off. I also used the Pocket Prep app, which was a real lifeline. You have to pay for the full version, which is $9.99, but it is so worth it. I would suggest that app to anyone struggling with any section of the test.

My first choice is North Harris, but I applied to all four that are open right now. I also applied to Cy-Fair's LVN program, just in case. My scores are: 6.8549 for the ADN and 7.712 for the LVN. I'm really not happy about my ADN score, but I've waited so long to apply that I didn't want to retake anything. I received a C in English, which is why my score is so low. I got a B in A&P 1 and an A in A&P 2. I pray my scores will be enough for one of the programs though.

Yeah, I was shocked to hear about HCC. Hopefully when they get their Pass/Fail rate for the NCLEX up, then they'll start accepting applications again.

I pray that with all the hard work everyone has put forth pays off and we all get in!!

Your HESI score is awesome!!! The A&P part was definitely the most difficult! And it doesnt help that that section has the fewest amount of questions compared to the others.

Dont worry from the past threads ive seen people with lower scores get accepted, especially at NH since they take so many!

ive been using the pocket prep app

also, how do you average your score, all I have are my letter grades, I don't have the actual number grade? Wonder how I can get those

I pray we all get in and can all meet :)

Same here!!

If you look on Lone Star's website they have sample score sheet. I know if you open your application online it will show you your exact score

Calculating your HESI score is fairly simple. Average your scores from Math, Vocab, Reading, AP, Grammar and divide by 25. That will give you X out of possible 4. I got my scores from the Elsevier website after taking my test.

Have you considered retaking English during the May mini or during the Summer to try to bring it up? With your LVN score, you're good, I think you will get in (I got in with a 7.81 and I was the highest score in my class). As for the ADN, from what I've heard at the information sessions, it is getting more competitive. The director at Kingwood said that of the last class accepted, the lowest score was a 7.2.

Was that only for the Kingwood campus or for all locations?

I got that from the program director at Kingwood about a week ago. She was speaking to how competitive the straight ADN program has become. She didn't mention anything of transition or LVN program scores.

That makes me so nervous, my first choice is Montgomery and I know thats one of the harder locations to get into

No, I haven't considered taking it over. I've taken English over once and it still didn't work. What got me both times was the large assignment at the end of the semester that I didn't score well on. Prior to the assignment, I had a mid B. I'm just not a fan of the subject the way I was in high school.

I talked to the Advisor at North Harris and she told me the lowest they take on average is a 6.75. They accept more students per application period, so I'm hoping it's enough.

I'm so worried about that stupid C I have in a&p

i had the WORST online professor at Victoria college. Ugh..... I'm thinking about taking a mini session in the summer to make it before the September dealine

but right now my focus is this HESI!!!!!! I need to ace all sections if I want to even be considered with that stupid C

I didn't even know you could retake classes to be considered after april.
