SOOO long story short, my unit is sharing a floor with another unit while the hospital does some remodeling/renovating.This AM, a nurse I've never seen before came up to our nurses station, asking, who is HalfMarathoner? I turned around and said, I am. She says, you took my locker. I said, I did? She says that she has had that locker since she worked in the hospital. I said (my unit just recently moved) oh I'm sorry, there wasn't any one's name on it, I didn't think it belonged to anyone. She said, well, my name was on it. So she looked exasperated and left. Turns out... she is a nursing supervisor on the weekend!!! OOPS. The nurses I was working with said oh she's always like that, but when I asked if I should go move my stuff they didn't say yes or no. Should I move my stuff? Honestly, we were told lockers were cleared for us, and it didn't have a name label, belongings in it, or a lock. It's not even prime locker real estate. I'm wondering if I should suck it up and move my stuff, or (since her unit is moving soon) I should just forget about it.Obviously I should have offered to move my things, but if she had been a little nicer or even polite about it, I would have. Also it was the end of my 12 hour nightshift, and i was feeling more than a little sleep deprived so my social skills were at a critical low. Now I'm scared of what could happen! Any advice?
I worked at a place for over 2 years and never got a locker....When one did open up, it was on another unit, all the way on the other side of the building, on a lock down unit that I did not even have access to. >LOL<.. seriously i don need anything at work. bring my lunch enough for or figure if someone needs to steal food then they it more than do but really will share. carried property in left pockets and nursing stuff right . car keys cell phone bra. what ya a locker>
something we did at another place what that the lockers were for daily issue only. if after shift change your lock was still on "your" locker, it became the locker with the lock cut off. this works nice if you share someone on another shift...people are crazy....specially bout things like lockers. I wouldn't worry about it. Get more pockets, carry less stuff.
Just to play devils advocate, how do we know somebody else didn't move her stuff before the OP laid claim to the locker. We had our locker room remodeled a couple of years ago and someone took every thing out of my locker, removed the pictures and all. Didn't leave a note or anything. A lot of my reference materials were in the locker along with pictures of my kids. There was no way someone else didn't know who's locker it was. I don't know if it was the same person or not, but someone else laid claim on my locker and filled it with their things. I was quite upset. The other nurse said the locker was empty when she put her stuff in it. I did find some of my stuff eventually and occasionally I will find one of my reference books somewhere on the unit.
My point is, how can we label the lady as petty or an old bat when we do not know the whole story. Seriously, we don't know the other nurses pov so how can we judge. It is a locker. What is so wrong with the OP apologizing and moving her stuff? Why would the other nurse lie about it being her locker? Sometimes we can be too quick to think that someone has it out for us or is trying to intimidate us. Life is too short, just find another locker.
I worked at a place for over 2 years and never got a locker....When one did open up, it was on another unit, all the way on the other side of the building, on a lock down unit that I did not even have access to. >LOL<...>It took me a year to get a locker...well part of one: I had to share it with a LVN. Three shelves: I had one, she had one, and the third was like Switzerland--neutral territory. Fortunately me and said LVN liked each other and were both packrats who liked our coffee by IV, so sharing a very messy locker worked out rather well. Switzerland became the shelf where we stashed all of our coffee supplies :)
Now I'm starting to miss all the LVNs I used to work with
They were damn good, I wish they were working here with me.
FOLLOWUP because I know everyone is dying to know what happened!
So, I went back in that night and was really rushed so I didn't actually move my stuff. Not out of spite or anything, but because I was a) really rushed when I came to work and b) really exhausted when I left the next AM.
I haven't heard anything else about it, but there are a couple of empty lockers opened up near to mine/hers. Also, her unit is moving this week, so they will all be moving into nice, new, gigantic lockers on a whole different unit, which is why I'm not going to pursue it further.
After sleeping on it, I definitely calmed down a lot. I know I could have handled it better, rather than getting all flustered.

my take is let the insecure old bat have her ****ed old locker. if she felt she had to assert herself so strongly over something so footsy, it just shows how insecure she feels. what a petty little person!
as my mom used to say, choose your battles wisely. if she simply caught you off guard with her rudeness, embarassed you for the moment, let it go. having to pick a new locker is a tiny thing in the overall scheme of things. if it were a major thing, certainly i wouldn't let myself be bullied. her behavior, to me, was laughable. she made a total axx of herself and people saw that.
she may have a friend who is or will become don or she might be don some day, so save your ammunition for when you really need it.
