Loans disbursed after classes start!?

Published

I got into nursing school for Spring 2011. I just checked my loan status and it says they wont be disbursed until January 21! The due date for payment is Jan. 5. Not to mention that I need to get a physical, CPR certified, background check, and like 20 books! No one will be in the office until Jan.4. What am I supposed to do!? I am freaking out!

It's normal for loans to be dispersed almost a month after classes start. At my school, your tuition is paid when your loans are dispersed so you don't have to worry about it. However, they do tell you that you still need enough money to cover your books and other expenses before your loans come in

At my school they direct deposit the Saturday before school starts. So since school begins January 24th the grant/loan money will be in my account on January 22nd. So check with the FA for thei

date they will deposit.

That is how our school is as well. We don't get our money until close to a month after school starts. But the payment for classes is charged to our account when they know we have been approved for a loan and we can charge stuff at the book store to our account if they know X amount of funds will be left over.

It's set up a lot of times that way so students can't get their money and than drop classes. Usually funds are disbursed after the withdraw with refund date has passed.

I just charge any books and supplies I need on a Rewards CC I have and pay it off when my money comes because I am not getting stuck paying bookstore prices. The biggest thing that sucks for me with how money is disbursed is having to pay for the first 4 weeks of my daughters school until the money comes in. At 250 a week it is quiet a hit on us.
