Went to a nursing career fair today. Should have been called a nursing college recruiting fair. The employers that were there separated the "new grads" off and gave you a flyer to their website. Seriously, I live on an island, do you really think I don't know about and haven't applied to every single job on your website already? When I asked which positions they hire new grads too, because I haven't seen any positions that don't require "1 year acute experience" they looked at me like I was rude or something. Seriously, why bother letting us in if you don't even want to talk? I have seen career fairs where new grads were excluded, at least it's honest! So, now I can say I have done it; can't say I will ever do that again.
Saw so many classmates from my graduating class. Not a case where misery loves company.

I feel your pain and you're correct. It is not only frustrating but demoralizing how some treat you, once they know you are a new grad. It has happened to me time and time again and it would take me longer to bounce back each time from the rejection, but it will happen for you evevetually. Having patience is key and more importantly perserverence. Good luck to you.

Job fairs and meet and greets are a waste of time for everybody involved. Our school had a meet and greet with the hospitals in the area. Few directors were actually interested in hiring us, and the few that were ran the worst floors I had ever seen. Anybody that has gotten a job before graduation has kissed a lot of butt or has worked on those floors to which they applied.
I'm fortunate to have a job lined up after I pass my NCLEX, but I know I'll be one of the few. I've gone to job fairs outside of nursing and they were absolute garbage. Companies seemed to just be there to show off and private for-profit schools ran rampant. I'm so sorry you had this experience . Good luck to you in the future. What state do you live in and would you consider moving?
