Life after school

I have been looking at the job boards for LPNs and I am noticing a trend, everyone wants you to have 1 year experience or more. My question is how do I get a job if nobody wants a freshly pinned LPN. I graduate in December so I guess something might open up, but I was just looking for advice.

There are many jobs that will take new grads. If the description says "experience preferred", then that means they may hire new grads, they will just train you. If not, there's always nursing homes/LTC's. I just graduated in December of 2014, passed my nclex a few weeks ago and I'm now job searching, hoping to get an LVN job by the end of this month.

Congratulation on passing the NCLEX! How many questions was it and was it is difficult as everyone says? Thank you for the advice and good luck with your job search.

Many students get good job leads through their peers in school who are already employed in the health care sector.

I had 85 questions, it was hard, but my review materials definitely helped me.

Okay that is good to know caliotter3. Wow only 85 a lot of ppl get way more than that smartypants22.

I graduated Dec '14, had my first interview 1 day after graduation, hired on the spot at an urgent care 2 weeks before taking nclex. Took nclex passed with 85 questions. Just takes patience & diligent searching for a job.

My class was all hired in the health region that we did our practicums in but for me. I moved shortly after graduation so I didn't have the advantage of the region already seeing my work. I applied for 7 jobs and got 3 of them. I did apply to smaller towns though it seemed to be easier to break into that area. I kept two jobs, one ltc and the other is a trauma, er, acute hospital. It can be done.

Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences, it makes the future seem like less of a chore. I was afraid I would be applying for months with no prospects even though I could see the jobs were out there.
