License Endorsement

Published

I'm stock. I've tried to transfer my license fron NM to FL. Now, a friend of mine said that I have to send the forms to NM because I pass my board in that state, in order for them to do the endorsement and send it to FL. Others said that the form to be use is the one of FL because that's the place where Im going to work. Any advise??? Thanks

Florida needs to have information on your education, qualifications, and NCLEX scores in order to issue you a license. They will obtain that information from NM. There will be a form or a release of information that you will have to sign and send to NM in order for them to release the necessary information directly to FL. (They won't return that form to you.) NM may charge a fee for providing this information, so ask about that and pay it promptly.

BTW, you don't "transfer" your license from one state to aonther. Once you complete the endorsement process, you will have 2 licenses, which you must maintain, or put on inactive status if/when you no longer plan to practice in a particular state. A very wise nursing instructor advised us to always keep our original license active. It makes the process of endorsement to other states much easier. Having moved a number of times, I agree with her advice.

This is weird. I just talk by phone with another nurse, who pass it in NM too a few month ago. He is working in Florida now and he said that he send the forms and fees etc,etc to FL... Would it be possible that we cuold do it in either way???:uhoh21: Because I don't want to pay double fees.... I'm broke enough:icon_rolleyes:. If so, I would prefer to do it with NM. They know me already...

But. Is this possible?

you have to endorse your license and must meet requirements of BON if you plan to work in another state, this will mean fees and/or fingerprints. This may answer a few questions http://www.doh.state.fl.us/mqa/nursing/nur_faq.html#Endorsement

You need to contact the FL BON and follow their instructions. Some states require the candidate to send the release of information request to the previous state themselves. Perhpas FL will send this to NM for you, I don't know.

I do know that many states charge a fee for filling out and returning the release of information form and won't do so until they have received payment from the candidate. That is a question you will have to ask NM.

Good luck!

Each state is specific as to how they will receive information. Normally it is the state where you got licensed that will submit the information to the new state; be aware that they can only do it with written permission from you.

Florida is also going to require the CES be submitted before they will grant you a license if you trained out of the US. This is different from the requirements of those that trained in the US.
