license by endorsement california specifics

Published

Hello all!

I tried searching the forum but didn't see anyone with my particular issue. I'm a newly licensed FNP, I want to be licensed in california, however, I received my ASN with Excelsior but BSN with Chamberlain. Meaning I know I have to endorse my RN license in order to apply for APRN endorsement. Will I be able to endorse my RN license in California being that I received my ASN with Excelsior but BSN with Chamberlain?

Thank you!

Not sure what your question is.. you will send transcripts from all schools at time of application.

Hi ArmaniX- I have seen on the forum that california bon won't except rn education from Excelsior college... my question is even though I completed my ASN with excelsior would that pose a problem for me since I finished my BSN with Chamberlain

Oh okay. Not aware but I attended all B&M schools. I would say call them and start the tedious task of that holding queue

I believe once you are licensed and have been practicing as a registered nurse, it's just a matter of endorsing to a new state (providing you have a license in your home state already). I believe CA will not give that first RN license to Excelsior graduates, but they'll endorse all day.

Found this allnurses.com thread about a situation similar to yours that might shed some light:

On second thought, just read through that thread.....California is outta there!! Looks like Excelsior ADN grads after 2003 cannot expect to make a living in California, EVER. That is crazy.

I think you will be ok because chamberlain is a school with a clinical component. I recall the license processer telling me to get my BSN through a school with a clinical component and I should be fine. I, however, went back to excelsior for my BSN and then I am now completing my NP elsewhere.

You will not get endorsed to California. They decide based on the program that led to your sitting the NCLEX. Additional education such as RN-BSN or MSN has no bearing. However dont forget you can still work federal jobs by maintaining your current state license.

Wanting to follow up on this since I plan to get my BSN at chamberlain this fall at their irving campus....has anyone recently endorsed their out of state license to cA after graduating from chamberlain/
